We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced, post CCT, spinal consultant to join our Trauma & Orthopaedic Team at Epsom & St Helier Hospital.
This post is initially for a 12 month fixed term contract. The post will in due course be advertised as a substantive post subject to further separate interview.
In conjunction with consultant colleagues the post holder will provide a spine surgical service to ESTH. The desired candidate will be comfortable performing decompressive and complex spinal surgery with an appropriate elective sub-specialty interest (e.g., Endoscopic spine surgery) which will be in line with departmental requirements. The post holder will not be required to undertake any spine deformity surgery.
The successful applicant should demonstrate that they have had dedicated training in spine surgery including evidence of being able to fulfil a general (non-spine) orthopaedic on-call commitment.
The successful candidate should be a fellowship-trained spine surgeon, competent in general spine elective caseload. Familiarity and active engagement with the British Spine Registry will be expected. Active involvement with established MDT meetings is required. It is proposed that this post will have an allocated general trauma lists, which will include #NOF's.
You will be expected to join the 1:12 weekend on-call rota, in addition to the 1:12 CoW (consultant of the week) rota.
Main duties of the job
1. To at all times, comply with the GMC’s guidance on ‘Good Medical Practice’ as amended or substituted from time to time.
2. To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
3. To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your Clinical Lead.
4. To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
5. On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust’s corporate induction (or arranged Consultant Induction).
6. To participate in the Trust’s Statutory & Mandatory training programme.
7. To be responsible for the Clinical Management of in and out patients under your care.

Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria
* CCT in Trauma & Orthopaedics
* GMC registered
* ATLS provider certificate
* FRCS
Experience Essential criteria
* Completion of spinal fellowship in Trauma & Orthopaedics
* Able to contribute to the full range of skills required for the on-call rota for Trauma & Orthopaedics
* High standard of clinical skill and expertise in Spines
* Experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
* Ability to apply research findings to clinical problems
* Ability to organise inpatient and outpatient waiting lists
* Ability to contribute to change management
