Main purpose of the role
The Community Engagement and Partnerships Officer is a newly created position funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) to support the Gurkha Museum's redevelopment. This role aims to expand the museum's outreach to schools, youth groups, families of Gurkha soldiers, and Nepalese communities, focusing on engaging new audiences as outlined in the Activity Plan. For over 200 years, Gurkha soldiers from Nepal have served Britain, making significant sacrifices.
The Gurkha Museum in Winchester preserves this unique relationship and attracts about 12,000 visitors annually. Alongside its permanent exhibitions, the museum engages with education programs, events, and commercial activities.
As it embarks on a major redevelopment project (Project Kaida), The Museum intends to enhance public engagement and access to its collections. The Museum is seeking one full-time or two part-time (0.5 FTE) officers to help deliver outreach activities. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Director and Activity Planners, requiring a proactive individual who can manage multiple projects and work well with a small team. Applications from Nepali speakers are especially encouraged.
