National Technology is an internal service team at RSM UK whose purpose is to deliver and manage the technology solutions to support the firm’s ambitious growth plans as well as day-to-day operations. The RSM UK In-House Legal team deals with both dispute resolution and corporate/commercial matters. In particular, the team advises on legal areas including litigation, complaints, professional indemnity insurance, regulatory/professional conduct, constitutional and corporate governance matters, M&A, company law, commercial contracts, commercial disputes, some data protection issues, third party requests for access to information and documentation, risk management and compliance issues. Responsibilities Managing our data is a central component of many of the matters handled by National Technology and the In-House Legal team. This includes managing unstructured data and application data utilised by our people, as well as fulfilling our obligations as a data custodian and in the context of E-discovery. Working as part of the National Technology team you will be central these activities and your responsibilities will include: Acting as the custodian of data, ensuring proper data handling and storage procedures are followed, including data retention, data backup, and data destruction. Developing and maintaining data inventory, classification, and retention policies in accordance with regulatory requirements and internal policies. Monitoring and enforcing data custodian responsibilities relating to our unstructured and application data, including, data preservation, data destruction, data transfer, and data security. Oversee the end-to-end E-Discovery process as required by our In-House Legal team in the context of litigation and regulatory matters, disclosure orders and third party requests for information, including identification, collection, preservation, processing, review, and production of electronic data from our files, being both unstructured documents and data from the applications utilised by our people. Acting as an internal expert in E-Discovery and ensuring compliance with our E-Discovery obligations by: Providing guidance to In-House Legal as to best practices and processes for the conduct of preservation and disclosure exercise; and. Ensuring the creation and maintenance of appropriate documentation with regard to the steps taken to collect/review/preserve/disclose data. Supporting lawyers and paralegals in In-House Legal during the lifecycle of matters from initial scoping through to disclosure; Engaging with lawyers and paralegals to support the effective use of review platforms, including recommending appropriate search configurations and review workflows; Liaising between National Technology and In-House Legal to establish prioritisation between matters; Proactively anticipating and troubleshooting issues which may arise in the course of collections and reviews; Partnering with National Technology and In-house Legal to implement improvements and innovations in preservation and disclosure where appropriate; and Presenting to the In-house legal team regarding E-Discovery best practices and topical areas of relevance in the area of E-Discovery Requirements To be successful in this role you will need to be able to demonstrate the following: Minimum of 5 years of experience in E-Discovery management, data custodian responsibilities, and structured and application data reporting discovery. Thorough technical understanding of forensic collection techniques, data processing tools and review platforms, including experience of data processing preferably through Nuix, or other E-Discovery platforms. Proven experience in providing technical and project E-Discovery support in a litigation setting, including setting up and reporting on E-Discovery reviews, and proactively anticipating and resolving E-Discovery challenges; Demonstrated initiative in designing and implementing new processes or enhancements to existing E-Discovery processes; Excellent communications skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, with both technical experts and lawyers/paralegals who may be unfamiliar with technical aspects. Ability to plan workload, prioritise demands and display flexibility, juggling a variety of matters of varying complexity and urgency; Ability to take ownership of and to deliver tasks within time frames as required; Excellent attention to detail; Strong team player; Focuses on excellent quality of work with a commercial and intelligent approach; Desire to constantly improve and develop; and Compliant approach to risk management according to regulatory and firm requirements.
