To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of service users whose problems are managed by psychologically based care plans. To integrate with the psychological formulation specialist knowledge of complex mental health disorders. To understand the role of physical treatments for complex mental health disorders, and to offer appropriate advice to the patient, carers and clinicians in the light of such understanding. To liaise closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team, giving authoritative specialist advice on psychological aspects of care, contributing directly to formulation, diagnosis and treatment planning. To contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all those who use the service. To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual service users and to provide advice and training to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management.
