DHL, an award-winning leading supply chain business is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to play a vital role driving a digitalisation culture which empowers our people to deliver value to our stakeholders. Digital Manufacturing is a fast-paced internal start-up within DHL Supply Chain which operates a robotics-as-a-service business model, providing on-demand robots performing tasks not appropriate for people. The DM team design, build, install and maintain bespoke and market sourced robotic solutions across the global supply chain business.
WHAT DOES THE ROLE ENTAIL?
As part of your normal duties, you will
* Develop and deploy the PLC software that controls our automated systems and prototypes.
* Lead and collaborate with the engineering team to create bespoke automation solutions, based on customer requirements.
* Provide engineering support to the service team with advice and remedial actions following investigations of product failures.
* Plan the controls architecture and assist with cabinet layouts for each system, creating electrical drawings in addition to wiring your design.
* Working predominately in Beckhoff structured text your controls applications will master everything in the machine, processing signals from distributed IO over EtherCat, FSoE and MQTT to make decisions and sequence the machine.
* Create all relevant manuals, Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Health and Safety documentation in line with legislative and company policies
WHAT DO WE NEED FROM YOU?

* Experienced in advanced PLC software design and implementation, fault finding and debugging
* Knowledge of advanced structured text PLC programming and general integration of hardware and software
* Software knowledge of Beckoff and TwinCat is highly desirable.
* Experience of electrical control theory, electrical panel design and generation of circuit diagrams to support the machine technical file
* Knowledge of robot programming and industrial communications (TCP/IP, MODBUS TCP/RTU, RS232/485, OPCUA, PROFINET)
* Experience in C# development beneficial but not required.
* Knowledge of CE/UKCA Machinery Directive.
* Familiar with general robot programming, cobots and robotics principles
* Capable of independent logical thought and deduction to solve problems
