Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and creative Senior Sister for Hatherley Ward HASU.If you are a dynamic, energetic, enthusiastic senior nurse we would love to hear from you. The role incorporates a 24-hour responsibility managing and effectively leading the clinical nursing team alongside other agencies. The post holder will be a role model, providing regular direct clinical care. You will focus on the provision of high quality, visible, professional leadership, setting and maintaining standards of clinical excellence, improving outcomes and experiences for patients, families, carers as well as staff. You will have to build a working relationship with the stroke specialist nurses and stroke rehabilitation ward as well as the wider MDT (stroke consultants, doctors, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, SALT and dietician) to ensure a smooth pathway for stroke patients. The post holder is required to hold a valid 1st level registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and maintain standards in accordance with UK law, the NMC, Trust and EU guidelines. The Senior Sister will report to the matron, with responsibility to ensure budgets, workforce and staff development is in place to ensure delivery of quality, safety, infection prevention and control, financial and workforce targets and be professionally accountable to the Divisional Director for Quality and Nursing for Medicine. Main duties of the job You will be responsible to the Matron and the Trust, jointly contributing and assisting with service delivery for 21 bedded Hatherley Ward HASU within the Medical Division. You will be visible, accessible, assertive figure to whom staff, patients and families/relatives can turn for assistance and guidance to ensure the fundamentals of care are delivered effectively and efficiently. Provide professional leadership to nurses and students; accountable for your practice, acting as a role model within the department, medical division and the Trust ensuring that competence in managerial and clinical practice is both developed and maintained. Leads the team in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care of patients admitted to the department in accordance with Trust and directorate pathways. Support the development of nursing skills in all aspects of the role providing expert clinical knowledge and specialized advice. Has in-depth knowledge of infection control policies, with practical experience and principles in relation to the clinical environment, patient care, the prevention of cross infection, outbreak management, good hand hygiene and environmental cleaning. Contributes to, oversees the safe and effective discharge planning of patients informing the discharge team of issues and patient /relative requirements. Develop and use local and national networks to identify and introduce to the directorate best practice in the management and care of patients.
