Our Role: This role reports into the Head of European Leverage Finance Credit Research and is responsible for providing recommendations for leveraged bank loans and high yield bonds investments to the Portfolio Management teams, undertaking ESG assessments on issuers and in providing on-going credit research capabilities for monitoring positions held in client portfolios. Your Impact: Perform in-depth quantitative and qualitative research and complex analysis of industry and company-specific information as it relates to both new and existing securities in the UK and European sub investment markets. Evaluate specific risk/return opportunities consistent with portfolio guidelines and objectives. Specialise in up to 3-4 sectors in European markets with responsibility for all relevant bond and loan issuers in those sectors Provide purchase and sale recommendations to portfolio managers based upon thorough credit analysis, assessment of relative values and total return performance Analysis to include preparation and presentation of concise, well organized written findings. Prepare financial and operating statistics on corporate securities under investigation, utilizing quantitative and qualitative information obtained to determine financial and competitive advantages and disadvantages Analyse an issuers ESG credentials both as they pertain to credit risk but also undertake an assessment of an issuers impact in ESG terms. Familiarity with relevant issues (in conjunction with the ESG team) and an ability to engage with issuers is required. Keep abreast of new developments in fixed income markets to determine their potential value to portfolio performance. Understand global and European economic trends and develop a perspective on interest rate movements, credit spreads, yield curve/duration risks and currency risks. Build relationships with analysts at investment banks and other research houses and leverage those relationships to maximize the flow of timely information and to assist in monitoring and analyzing credits. Work closely with fixed income portfolio managers and credit analysts based both in Europe and the US to ensure consistency of process and investment opportunity. Proactively participate in strategy meetings and be able to offer advice and commentary on corporate bond/credit matters in a manner that seizes new opportunities and enhances returns. Track economic, market and industry data of importance Proactively monitor industry developments and recommend changes to exposures when warranted. Where appropriate, meet with, or contact, members of a company's senior management, customers, suppliers, auditors, banks, institutional lenders, trade organizations, investment bankers, research sources, rating agencies, and/or others to assist in making a proper investment decision. Your Required Skills: Significant fundamental credit research experience with an investment management firm (preferred) Exceptionally strong skills in fundamental credit analysis and in-depth knowledge of the UK and European corporate credit markets. University degree and CFA, MBA, legal, accounting or other relevant professional qualification (preferred) Deep and broad understanding of relative valuation and trading relationships for individual issuers and across market sectors. Ability and willingness to render independent assessment of issuers, sectors and markets and communicate such in a coherent, concise and convincing manner. Ability to analyse and assess corporate and financial structures, covenants, interest rates and other terms. Knowledge of current events/trends impacting business issues (i.e. macro-economic, socio-political, industry, etc). Fundamental knowledge of the capital markets, and derivatives are an added bonus. Excellent IT application skills (Excel, Bloomberg, etc.) Excellent team player skills: must be a self-starter and work well in a team environment that includes investment colleagues, not only in Europe, but also around the globe. Excellent communication skills, ability to communicate concisely and effectively, both orally and in writing, proficiency in a second European language is a plus.
