Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced locum Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join our Devon Daytime AMHP Service on a full-time, temporary basis. This is an exciting opportunity to make a direct impact on the lives of individuals experiencing mental health crises, while working within a supportive, team-focused environment.
As an AMHP, you will be responsible for conducting assessments under the Mental Health Act 1983 and related legislation, ensuring that individuals are appropriately supported and that legal requirements are met. The role involves a mix of office-based community working and field-based assessments. It is essential that the successful candidate is available to work within the Devon area during shift hours.
Key Responsibilities:
Mental Health Act Assessments: Conduct assessments in accordance with the Mental Health Act 1983, including triage decisions at the point of referral and s13(1) MHA consideration.
Triage and Decision-Making: Take critical decisions around referrals, ensuring that individuals receive the necessary care and legal protections under the Mental Health Act.
Community and Office-Based Working: Carry out assessments in both community settings and office-based environments. You will be required to be in the area when on shift.
AMHP Support and Development: Work within a supportive duty environment to develop and enhance your s13(1) skills and experience, while contributing to team practice improvements.
Travel Across Devon: As an AMHP, you must be able to travel throughout the Devon area to conduct assessments and fulfil your duties effectively.Requirements:
AMHP Qualification: You must hold a recognised AMHP qualification.
Professional Qualification: A recognised qualification in one of the following fields:
Social Work (with registration to Social Work England)
Occupational Therapy (with registration to the Health and Care Professions Council - SWE)
First Level Nursing (Mental Health or Learning Disability) (with registration to the Nursing and Midwifery Council)
Psychology (with Chartered Psychologist status)
Registration: You must be registered with the relevant professional regulatory body (Social Work England, HCPC, Nursing and Midwifery Council, or Chartered Psychology).
Experience: Previous experience in Mental Health Act assessments, including triage and decision-making at the point of referral.
Travel Flexibility: The ability to travel across Devon to carry out assessments and work effectively in various community settings.
DBS Checks: You must complete a DBS Verification Form, including checks against the Children’s and Adults Barred Lists.Working Environment:
The post will be based at Wonford Hospital in Devon, but you will be expected to work across the community and may need to attend various locations as part of your assessments.
Full-time role with flexibility for part-time working, if needed.
You will be required to be available within the area during your shift times and work collaboratively within a supportive team structure.Additional Information:
