Business Development Manager - Photonics
We are looking for an experienced Photonics Packaging Development Engineer seeking an exciting opportunity to develop their optical design and development skills within a product development environment across multiple applications in commercial and high reliability industries.
Your role will involve all aspects of the optical package design, optical performance and to be an innovative leader. You will be responsible for many stages of the product design, from concept feasibility through to full scale manufacturing.
It is anticipated that there will be full interaction with customers and suppliers and the development of products to specification in a timely, quality, cost effective manner.
Job Description
Photonics packaging development engineer required to carry out the following major activities:
Role:
1. Optical design and simulation
2. Component and package design
3. Manufacturing process development
4. Hands-on process operations
5. New product introduction
Skills:
1. Demonstrated optical design/simulation capability using Zemax or equivalent.
2. Broad knowledge of the following assembly processes: Wafer saw, epoxy and solder die attach, wirebond, package sealing, encapsulation, surface mount.
3. Basic understanding of materials properties relating to packaging (e.g. thermal expansion, thermal conductivity).
4. Mechanical design using Solidworks or equivalent (preferably with thermal/stress modelling experience).
5. Design for manufacturing, FMEA, DOE
6. Project management (including generating and maintaining project plans).
7. An understanding of process engineering, yield improvement & SPC (preferred but not essential)
Qualifications/Education/Certifications:
1. Optics/Engineering/Science degree (lower qualifications will be considered if backed up with more than 5 years relevant industrial experience).
Experience:
1. A minimum of 5 years relevant industrial experience (semiconductor and/or optical component manufacturing).
2. Experience in optical component/system design.
3. Zemax optical design software experience, 3+ years.
4. A proven track record in Optics design and their applications is essential.
5. Knowledge and understanding of the techniques and equipment used in the assembly of semiconductor level micro and opto-electronic components.
6. Ability to work across a wide range of industrial product technologies.
7. Ability to continually maintain an overview of project schedules and to plan future resource requirements while discussing detail with the relevant individuals.
8. Ability to work within cost, quality & time constraints to meet customer requirements.
9. Ability to work under pressure, understand priorities and highlight resource gaps and likely project slippage in advance to allow recovery or commercial management.
10. Excellent communication skills with the ability to participate in, contribute and in some cases drive conference calls with key customers.
11. Initiate and chair regular project meetings and design reviews.
