POST: Health & Safety Lead REPORTS TO Director of People ACCOUNTABLE TO: Chief Executive Job Purpose: To co-ordinate, support and advise Phyllis Tuckwell on all aspects of Health & Safety (H&S). To establish, manage and monitor standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure compliance across all areas of H&S. Responsibilities 1.0 Professional 1.1 To ensure a safe working environment without risk to health throughout Phyllis Tuckwell. 1.2 To ensure that H&S policies, procedures, rules and regulations are administered, adhered to and regularly reviewed, in line with current legislation and recommendations from the Health & Safety Executive, and communicated appropriately. 1.3 To ensure that Phyllis Tuckwell meets its statutory obligations in all areas relating to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting. 1.4 To work with the education team to ensure a structured programme of H&S training across Phyllis Tuckwell, making effective use of e-learning modules on training tracker, ensuring training is relevant to Phyllis Tuckwell and reflects current H&S legislation. 1.5 To provide professional advice and support for all areas of H&S and deal with any issues within their level of competency, escalating more complex issues to the Director of People. 1.6 To ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments, supporting individuals and line managers to review and undertake new assessments, ensuring they are fully documented and recommending actions and following up as appropriate. 1.7 To ensure that all incidents, accidents, near misses or non-compliance are documented and investigated with recommended improvements implemented accordingly. To investigate and formally report on serious accidents or incidents within an appropriate timescale and to liaise, in conjunction with the Director of People, with relevant statutory bodies involved. 1.8 To establish, monitor and maintain a programme of documented H&S inspections, audits and checks across Phyllis Tuckwell, including retail premises. To produce subsequent reports and action plans to ensure good progress of Health & Safety issues. 1.9 To ensure that safety inspections are carried out including fire alarm testing and drills, safety inspections, and lone working procedures are managed with staff and volunteers aware of their responsibilities. 1.10 To support Line Managers with DSE, Work Station and MSK Assessments for new and existing staff and where risks are identified, to recommend and implement appropriate manual handling or ergonomic solutions. 1.11 To assist with the development and maintenance of a H&S information centre on the Phyllis Tuckwell intranet. 1.12 To provide information to the Operations committee including the provision of regular H&S reports, within required timescales, as required. 1.13 To maintain membership of and active involvement in national and regional professional networks, including USHA, NEUSG and IOSH. 1.14 To implement and coordinate activities required to meet Phyllis Tuckwells 5 year strategy. 1.15 To undertake H&S project work as and when required. 2.0 Training and Development a) Team 2.1 To share best practice with colleagues, especially in relation to new approaches to work. 2.2 To contribute to the effective development of the team, providing personal support where needed. 2.3 To actively contribute and suggest on how improvements could be made to improve the work load if necessary. b) Personal 2.4 To keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation 2.5 To actively look for new opportunities and areas for self-development using the Phyllis Tuckwell Annual Performance Review System to ensure skills are kept relevant and up to date 2.6 To develop effective relationships with colleagues and be aware of personal style. 2.7 To attend in-house training days including updates on health and safety, fire safety and other mandatory training as required. 2.8 To effectively manage own time and workload. 3.0 Research 3.1 To actively contribute to, and take part in, any quality measuring systems that Phyllis Tuckwell may put in place with regard to the area of your expertise. 3.2 To be aware of and adhere to the relevant Phyllis Tuckwell policies and procedures, especially those relating to health and safety, fire, lone worker and moving and handling. 4.0 Safeguarding, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion 4.1 Role holders are required to understand their responsibilities in the safeguarding context, ensuring that Phyllis Tuckwell reduces the risk of harm or abuse of adults and children at risk.
