Main Duties of the Job
The role of the postholder is diverse. In the Haematology Treatment Unit, the successful applicant will be required to undertake observations of patients receiving chemotherapy, provide drinks and meals for patients as required, act as a runner between the Unit and Pathology/Pharmacy as needed, support the nursing staff within the unit as they place peripherally inserted central catheters, and undertake simple dressings. There will also be a requirement to collect blood products from pathology to support the transfusion workload of the unit.
Within the Outpatient Clinic, the role involves weighing and calling patients through for consultation, chaperoning patients having clinical examinations, undertaking simple dressings, and undertaking observations as required.
In both areas, a large part of the job role involves communicating and supporting patients and their relatives, so there will be a significant amount of working with the public involved.
