But we're more than just a law firm - we're a team of people working together to help individuals and businesses navigate life's ups and downs. Working here you'll feel a part of our friendly and inclusive environment.
We'll value you for who you are and what you bring. We support each other and push boundaries to achieve incredible things and make a real difference to our clients and communities.
We're always looking to support our colleagues to work in a way that works best for them and everyone else, including our clients, the business and the regulators. Please speak to a member of our Recruitment and Onboarding team for more information.
Your Role and What You'll Be Doing
The Team represents both individuals and businesses accused of criminal and regulatory offences large and small. We regularly act for and defend clients investigated or prosecuted by the police, prosecution agencies, and regulators which may lead to prosecution or disciplinary sanctions.
Things we've been doing recently:
* Represented the Chief Executive of a charity accused of bribery. No further action taken by the Police after investigation.
* Represented a Company Director in a Police investigation into conspiracy to commit fraud, false accounting and bribery.
* Represented a Pharmacist accused of misconduct, including in a General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) fitness to practice investigation. No further action was taken following the full investigation.
* Defended a client facing enforcement by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) for non-payment of a £4.5m confiscation order.
* Represented a client accused of historic sexual offences. Client found not guilty following Crown Court trial.
* Represented a Social Worker in an ongoing Police investigation relating to an allegation of gross negligence manslaughter.
* Advised two Company Directors in an international investigation by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) into alleged fraud, cheating the public revenue, and money laundering.
* Advised a former Company Director in an accountancy practice in an investigation by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
* Advised the former Regional Sales Director of a leading national engineering specialist in a Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation of alleged price-fixing.
* Represented an international company in court proceedings relating to a motoring offence.
This is an exciting opportunity to further develop your skills within an established and innovative national law firm and department. You will be working within a fast-paced team on a stimulating mix of cases. You will not only be technically excellent but also a good communicator with rounded client service skills. You must be able to develop strong relationships with a wide range of people, be empathetic, supportive yet directional. You will be representing clients on an array of existing regulatory and criminal investigations and proceedings, but also grow your own caseload of work.
About You
* We're looking for a bright and enthusiastic individual to join our successful team. You'll be an experienced Regulatory and/or Criminal Solicitor with the confidence to work autonomously, taking the lead on some matters from the very beginning.
* Experience in Regulatory and/or Criminal Defence work.
* Ideally have Police Station Accreditation and/or Magistrates Court Qualification but this is not essential.
* The role would best suit someone with 2 - 5 years' PQE.
Our Benefits - What We Can Offer You
* 25 days holidays as standard plus bank holidays - You can 'buy' up to 35hrs of extra holiday too.
* Generous and flexible pension schemes.
* Volunteering days - Two days of volunteering every year for a cause of your choice (fully paid).
* Westfield Health membership, offering refunds on medical services alongside our Aviva Digital GP services.
We also offer a wide range of well-being initiatives to encourage positive mental health both in and out of the workplace and to make sure you're fully supported. The Human Touch That Matters To You
In September 2019 we launched our human touch campaign. It focused on the emotional transitions our clients go through and the role our colleagues play in supporting them when they need more than just expertise. We wanted to create a marketing campaign that dared to be different and we believe that it was made by the most inclusive production team ever. It’s the perfect example of our three strategic pillars coming together and Life at Irwin Mitchell is a continuation of this, which reinforces why our culture is truly unique.
We sat down with people from different backgrounds and with different experiences to find out what it’s really like to work here.
They spoke openly and honestly about their careers, their clients and the human touch that matters to them.
