Are you looking to be part of an exciting team on Ward 15? You will work as an integral part of the clinical ward / area team and be responsible for the coordination of all patient facilities/services in the ward area, ensuring a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.
The main element of the role is ensuring and supporting the delivery of cleaning, catering, and minor maintenance, together with other specified tasks to meet individual patients' needs, as determined by the ward sister/charge nurse. The post holder will work cooperatively with colleagues as part of the team and perform additional duties as directed by the ward clinical team, enabling nursing staff to undertake direct patient care. This is a part-time role for 16 hours per week.
Main Duties of the Job
Communication
1. When required, greet patients and visitors to the area, being mindful of good relationships between patients, staff, and relatives.
2. Communicate effectively with other team members.
3. Work as part of the ward team to ensure the continual provision of the highest possible standards of service.
4. Communicate effectively with patients and carers, recognizing their needs for alternative methods of communication.
5. To liaise with maintenance staff to ensure that equipment is in working order.
6. Organize and update notice boards as appropriate.
7. Maintain a high standard of personal behavior and ensure effective communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team, patients, carers, and relatives.
8. Act as a point of contact for ward-based volunteers, providing local induction and day-to-day guidance.
Personal and People Development
1. Take responsibility for personal updating and development, including mandatory training and the Development Review Process.
2. Take responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal development.
3. Participate in the Trust Appraisal System.
4. Work with management on any new training requirements.
5. Demonstrate skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work.
6. Ensure that Patients' information booklets are always available on the locker.
Person Specification
Experience
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
* Previous experience in a hospitality/customer-facing or care environment.
* Experience of working in a team.
* The candidate must have knowledge of the following or be prepared to undertake the relevant training:
o Basic Health & Safety
o Infection Control
o Basic Food Hygiene
o Customer Care
* Good telephone and reception manner.
* Self-motivated.
* Ability to communicate with staff, patients, and visitors.
* Ability to motivate others.
* Good self-organizational skills.
* Ability to work on own initiative and meet deadlines.
* Bank Holiday/weekend working as required by the Department.
* Working with hazardous chemicals.
* Able to work flexibly during work hours to cover department needs.
* Standard Clauses:
o A Disclosure and Barring Service check will be carried out where the position is eligible for a Disclosure and Barring Service Check in accordance with the 2012 Protection of Freedom Act and the guidance issued by the DBS.
o All posts working with children or vulnerable adults are required to have an Enhanced DBS check, including checking against DBS/ISA Vetting and Barring lists.
* NVQ or equivalent in relevant subject.
* Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
* Supervisory experience in the NHS or similar environment.
* Experience of undertaking a ward assistant role.
* Basic keyboard skills.
* Knowledge of the NHS Standards of Cleanliness.
Qualifications
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
* NVQ or equivalent in relevant subject.
* Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
