Job overview
Following additional investment, we are delighted to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our Medicine for Older People based at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. The post holder will provide a clinical and leadership role in the assessment, treatment and management of older people in addition to contributing to the overall proactive and preventative agenda. The successful candidate will work within our forward thinking and expert multidisciplinary team to provide high quality care and will be expected to constantly seek to improve and develop the service.
The appointee will be expected to bring innovation and vision, to further develop a service fit for the future needs of our local population whilst ensuring that current service provision continues to be high-value and delivered to the highest standard. Frequent review of the service is anticipated to ensure that Trust and departmental strategic priorities are being met.
The development of relevant research interests will be encouraged, and opportunities will be enhanced alongside areas of specialist interest.
* Provide cover to our elderly care inpatient wards.
* Assist with the running of community clinics and day-units.
* Maintenance of the highest clinical standards.
* Teaching and training of junior staff and allied medical/nursing staff.
* To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical governance and audit.
* Responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD). The department has a strong belief in developing our team and has supported CESR training.

Person specification
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Full MRCP UK or Eligibility for the Specialist register in general internal medicine.
* Eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from GMC.
* Have evidence of achievement of Internal Medicine Stage 1.
* JRCPTB internationally level 3 accredited equivalent Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training programme.
* Completion of UK ST3 in General Internal Medicine - evidenced by ARCP.
* Evidence of achievement of Internal Medicine Stage 1 capabilities.
* Eligible to work in the UK.
* Up to date and fit to practise safely.
* Higher degrees including MSc, PhD or MD.
Experience
* Evidence of experience in a range of acute medical specialties.
* Evidence of involvement in a quality improvement or formal research project.
* Evidence of teaching experience and/or training in teaching.
* Have evidence of achievement of Internal Medicine Stage 1.
* Experience core level of managing elderly patients.
* Experience of managing patients with severe acute medical disease.
* Evidence of relevant academic publications.
Personal Skills
* Good communication skills including written.
* Evidence of self-reflective practice.
* Evidence of involvement in management commensurate with experience.
* Evidence of effective multi-disciplinary team working and leadership.
* Evidence of achievement outside medicine.
