We are committed to delivering a safe and reliable train service, by investing in our fleet of trains, stations, and employees. As part of this investment, we are looking to recruit Driver Optimisation Specialist, on a full-time basis, based in Birmingham.
The Driver Optimisation Specialist supports the Driver Strategy Manager in delivering all aspects of the Driver Function Strategy. The post holder should have excellent knowledge and qualifications relating to Train Driving. The role uses specialist knowledge to drive improvements within the function as specified by the Driver Strategy Manager.
What does the job involve
1. Support the Driver Strategy Manager with the implementation of the Driver Function’s Strategy.
2. Work cross-functionally to deliver successful outcomes for the business.
3. Engage with other TOCs and industry partners to understand best practice.
4. Ensure business changes are coherent with relevant safety and standards.
5. Identify existing inefficiencies in our current operation through collaboration with Resources, Area Driver Managers, Performance, Fleet and Train Planning.
6. Provide technical expertise in relation to new traction and new routes.
7. Work closely with Train Planning to understand future timetable plans to identify impact on all aspects of Driver function and support on workstreams to drive improvements.
8. Carry out reviews of existing Driver Management processes to identify efficiencies within the function and support on workstreams to drive improvements.
9. Work with Area Driver Managers and other departments to identify and develop training plans for the Driver function.
Knowledge and Experience
1. Current ETDL or proven current Driver rules knowledge is desirable but not essential.
2. Strong knowledge of railway operations.
3. Strong knowledge of railway safety and quality standards.
4. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
5. Ability to interpret data and technical information and explain what it means to others in simple terms.
6. Experience in managing projects within set timescales.
7. Experience in facilitating group workshops to achieve a specified output.
8. Experience in using train planning software is desirable but not essential.
9. Proven experience in cross-functional working.
