This organisation is a non-ministerial government department that provides advice to other government departments and organisations in the public sector, both in the UK and around the world. You have the opportunity to join a small finance team, allowing your role to have varied responsibilities.
This is an exciting time to work with this organisation as they set out their five-year strategy and implement a new finance system.
You will have the opportunity to use your existing finance skills and develop wider knowledge of accounting and reporting, whilst gaining an insight into how our work supports the wider public sector. A key requirement of the role is a flexible approach, with an ability to adapt quickly to change and to work with colleagues across the wider team.
Based in Canary Wharf, this role requires 3 days in the office per week with 2 days working from home.
Your new role
Monthly management accounts:
* Managing month-end tasks, including reviewing and agreeing monthly accruals and prepayments with key directorate staff.
* Maintaining reports agreed with the Head of Finance to meet budget holder requirements, ensuring data is accurate and up to date.
* Conducting monthly analysis of actual transactional data to recognise trends in income or expenditure, identify budget variances and present findings.
* Building relationships across various business areas to provide advice, support and challenge on financial information.
Financial accounting:
* Ensure accounting policies are in line with HM Treasury's Financial Reporting Manual (FReM).
* Supporting in the provision of professional accounting, budgeting and wider financial stewardship advice, improving financial awareness and assess the robustness of financial controls across the department.
* Assist the Head of Finance in developing and maintaining the financial control environment.
Transition to new Finance System:
* Support the implementation of a new finance system, assessing current processes and working with the finance and project teams to design 'to be' processes to ensure consistent and efficient ways of working in new system.
* Scope work required in finance team to prepare for implementation of new system including identifying new processes required.
* Build relationships with teams across the department to ensure there is strong engagement in the new solution and all team members are bought in to the change.
* Ensure there are regular updates for all stakeholders on project progress including any challenges and issues and plans to address these.
* Helping to improve the reporting for the wider business using the new finance system.
Management and development of direct report:
* Ensure that one direct report is actively managed and coached, and that development opportunities are pursued to increase the resilience of the team.
What you'll need to succeed
* You must be a fully qualified accountant (CCAB or CIMA qualified).
* You must have experience of management accounting within a public sector organisation.
* You are available to start before the end of April 2025.
* You must be skilled in streamlining processes and building relationships with stakeholders.
What you'll get in return
* Salary: £51,854 - £63,279.
* Civil Service Pension: 28.97% employer contribution.
* 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
* Hybrid working: 3 days per week in the office, 2 days from home.
