An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Research Specialty Doctor in Aorto-Vascular Surgery at Barts Heart Centre, the UK’s leading aortovascular unit. This role is designed for an ambitious clinician-scientist seeking to drive translational research in acute aortic dissection, addressing knowledge gaps, system barriers, and transforming research into clinical practice.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing novel diagnostic and management strategies, working alongside leading experts in surgery, cardiology, radiology, and critical care. The role is uniquely positioned to translate high-impact research findings into clinical pathways and national guidelines, shaping the future of aortic dissection care.
The post includes the opportunity to register for an MD/PhD at Queen Mary University of London, engage in multi-centre research collaborations, and present at international academic and policy forums.
Translational Research and Innovation
1. Lead and contribute to clinically impactful research focused on enhancing early recognition, risk stratification, and acute management of aortic dissection.
2. Bridge the gap between research and clinical application by developing and evaluating evidence-based diagnostic protocols and treatment pathways that improve patient outcomes.
3. Assess and refine diagnostic strategies, including imaging modalities, biomarker applications, and decision-support tools, to facilitate timely and accurate diagnosis.
4. Act as Chief Investigator or Co-Investigator in multi-centre studies, securing research funding and ensuring robust methodology in the study of acute aortic syndromes.
5. Publish in high-impact journals and present at leading international conferences, ensuring research findings contribute to clinical practice advancements.
6. Identify system barriers to timely diagnosis and intervention, optimising referral pathways and access to specialist care.
7. Develop and validate risk stratification frameworks, integrating real-world data to refine treatment algorithms.
8. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design and implement research-driven management strategies, ensuring findings translate into improved care delivery.
Leadership and Academic Development
1. Supervise and mentor junior research fellows, MD/PhD students, and allied health professionals.
2. Take a leading role in grant applications and funding acquisition to support ongoing research.
3. Represent the institution at key national and international leadership forums, strengthening academic and clinical impact.
