Our client is well respected International Commodity Trading Company based in Central London. With trading hubs across multiple locations London, USA and Asia. Their Shipping team serves the transport needs of business units across the group handling movement of cargo worldwide using all vessel sizes and modes of transport. Reporting to the UK Managing Director, a Logistics Manager is required to join the team and support their critical and interesting work. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: Establish and arrange the most efficient and cost-effective way of moving, storing and transhipping goods, negotiate freight, transport and forwarding costs and contract terms. Manage risk associated with the movement and storage of goods Close liaison with forwarders, brokers, and agents Provide trading units with indicative transport and storage costs required to evaluate potential business Assist trading units with incorporation of workable shipping conditions in sale and purchase contracts Work closely with trading units with respect to cargo readiness and cargo movement requirements Book containers/ro-ro services/barges/rail and trucks as required Support vessel chartering/post fixture activities (panamax/supramax/handymax/coaster sizes) on a voyage charter basis as a sole or part cargo Nominate vessels to suppliers/buyers/ports/forwarders Undertake due diligence on storage locations – including visiting ports and storage locations Pay attention to cargo handling and where applicable appoint surveyors Monitor vessel load and discharge operations and cargo movements Process freight, transport and storage invoices for payment Obtain prompt release of shipping documents (bills of lading) Check and arrange any letters of indemnity required Produce laytime calculations and negotiate demurrage/despatch with vessel owners/suppliers/buyers KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Either: ICS qualified / part-qualified or a desire to qualify A minimum of 6 years shipping / logistics experience including arranging land and sea transport, warehousing and transhipment Knowledge of voyage chartering, including charter party terms, and vessel operations Experience of booking containers and inland transportation Experience in a similar role, (preferably with a commodity trader) A good understanding of Incoterms and marine insurance Strong attention to detail, accurate and thorough Good organisational skills and an ability to prioritise Excellent verbal and written communication skills including fluency in English A willingness to travel and undertake port visits in UK and overseas A positive, can-do attitude Computer literate at least in the Microsoft Office suite Team Player
