To support these objectives, our Health, Safety and Environment Team is looking for an apprentice to join the team. This is an apprentice post lasting 24 months; you will be studying towards Level 3 Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Technician Apprenticeship Standard which can lead to membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. The Certificate will give you a grounding in basic principles of health, safety and environmental principles including the regulatory environment and the key disciplines of risk assessment and accident investigation. This core qualification will open doors to all sectors of the health, safety and environment profession, depending on the direction that you would like your career to take you.
You will have the opportunity to learn all about the health, safety and environmental risks in the housing sector and gain real life experience of how these risks are mitigated.
What you will be doing:
1. Health and safety training – conduct tool box talks and training to colleagues.
2. Accident and incident investigation – gather evidence and capture actions for improvement.
3. Administering the lone worker device provision.
4. Health, safety and environmental auditing – carry out audits and capture process improvements.
5. Environmental sustainability – Collate environmental performance data and monitor the implementation of the environmental action plan.
You don’t need any prior health, safety and environmental or housing knowledge but we’d love to meet someone with:
6. Naturally inquisitive and observant to identify hazards.
7. Investigative and problem-solving skills for audits and investigation.
8. Good administrative skills, with an attention to detail and accurate data inputting ability
9. IT literacy including Microsoft Excel and Word
10. A desire to learn
11. A flexible approach; working in the team you always have to be ready to deal with the unexpected.
12. The commitment and drive to deliver excellent customer services to our residents, colleagues and stakeholders
13. Ability to drive and have access to a car.
