In Wessex we want to create a diverse workplace where people are respected, valued and listened to. We’re all different, and by embracing Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) we can become an equal opportunity employer where jointly we all grow and learn together.
It is our ambition to champion diversity through building a workforce as diverse as the communities we serve.
We have an exciting opportunity for someone starting a career that can make a difference to the local environment in relation to the climate change agenda. As part of our dedicated, diverse team, you’ll help ensure the Environment Agency is prepared to respond to environmental incidents, safeguard water resources and help protect people from flooding. We’re looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and dependable person with plenty of initiative to solve problems and scrutinize large datasets.
The role is a combination of field and office work, so you must be willing to work outside all-year round, often in demanding weather conditions. You’ll utilise practical, scientific skills to install and operate sensitive equipment that measures rainfall, river flows, tides and groundwater levels, every 15 minutes, 365 days a year; and maintain the telemetry network that transmits the data to our computer systems. In the office you will use your IT and data analysis skills to quality assure the hydrometric data you’ve collected. Using good communication skills, you’ll build effective relationships across teams to provide datasets needed by key customers.
Our team members have incident response roles. You’ll be fully trained before undertaking solo site visits or working in rivers with colleagues. Health & Safety is at the core of everything we do.
