Job summary Interview Date: 30th April 2025 We are looking for a dynamic enthusiastic Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse who can drive forward the Discharge Units vision and values of ensuring safe outstanding discharges for patients of Barnsley. You will be an experienced Nurse with proven leadership and skills, a passion for development and a commitment to provide very high standards of patient care and experience. The Discharge Unit at Barnsley hospital helps facilitate approximately 1000 discharges per month. We have 6 bedded cubicles and can sit up to, a further 20 patients. We continue all aspects of patient care whilst they await medication and transport home. The Discharge Unit has recently become a 24/7 Unit. Therefore, we now have patients who stay overnight, who have a predicted date of discharge the following day. We play a key role in patient flow working at a fast pace whilst ensuring all patients have a safe and efficient discharge back into the community. Main duties of the job This is a brand-new post within the Discharge Unit so will be a great opportunity to develop and make the post your own. The post holder will support the Lead Nurse in all aspects of department management and have a key role in co-ordinating and developing the nursing team ensuring that patients always receive a high quality of nursing care. You will be expected to coordinate care to ensure a seamless and timely discharge of patients. To have visible and accessible presence within the clinical area for patients relatives and staff. Lead by example at all times acting as a positive role model taking responsibility for own professional development. You will organise your own work load and adjust and prioritise in response to daily activities within the department. You will have the ability to recognise and respond appropriately to issues which require urgent or immediate attention. You will deputise in the absence of the Lead Nurse, supporting them in the recruitment, retention and performance of staff. You will also support the lead nurse with budget control, including the safe allocation of staff and sickness management, whilst adhering to trust policies, procedures and professional code of conduct.
