Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Fellow post (ST3 or above level) within the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Specialty at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Prior experience in obstetrics and gynaecology is essential for this post. The post is a 12-month fixed term contract. Lancashire Teaching Hospital is a large teaching hospital. The successful candidate will contribute to the 2nd on-call rota for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The post is ideal for candidates who wish to gain further experience and training in the specialty, whilst broadening their skills prior to application to specialty training. This is a full-time post, however applications from candidates seeking a part time post will be considered. Main duties of the job The post is to work as a Senior Clinical Fellow (ST 3-4 equivalent) within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology currently on a full shift system. The appointee will be responsible to the Consultant/s to whom they are attached. There is a dedicated directorate training lead to support educational and pastoral needs for locally employed doctors. The main duties will be to support the running of the Obstetric and Gynaecological services on the Royal Preston Hospital site and at Chorley District Hospital. Duties will include: 1. To work within the delivery suite to provide input to the routine and the emergency workload at first on-call level. You will be expected to have adequate experience to enable you to work competently at the ST3 level. 2. To assist elective Caesarean Sections. 3. To work within the Ante-natal clinics, Maternity Triage as well as maternity, antenatal and postnatal wards 4. To assist in the provision of an Emergency Gynaecology Service as a first on-call level. 5. To work within the Gynaecology clinics and wards 6. To assist Gynaecological surgery 7. On-call duties are on a 1: 9 full shift system. Initially this is alongside and supporting a senior obstetrics and gynaecology trainee doctor (ST3-6) on the 2nd on call rota and then progressing to the increased seniority itself. 8. To support undergraduate education in the department- time and training will be allocated on the rota for this role. About us LTHTR is a teaching hospital serving a local population of 450,000 across Greater Preston, Chorley and South Ribble. The Trust has approximately 4,700 births annually and a level three neonatal unit. We provide services for high-risk pregnancies with MDT, Bluebell and Rainbow clinics. There are midwifery led birth units at both Royal Preston Hospital and at Chorley & South Ribble Hospital and a 12 bedded central delivery unit in Royal Preston Hospital. Lancashire Teaching Hospital is one of three centres in the Northwest which have been designated part of the maternal medicine network.
