Position: Gluing Operator
Location: Chelmsford
Hours: Shifts are double days, Monday to Friday 6 to 2 and 2 to 10 alternating
Salary: £32k including shift allowance
Main Purpose of a Gluing Operator:
To manufacture or assist in the manufacture of corrugated packaging to high quality print specifications.
Main Duties of a Gluing Operator:
1. Checking print quality and that the product is made up correctly and is fit for use.
2. Taking dimensional measurements and associating these with product specifications, ensuring products are within tolerance of customer expectations.
3. Cleaning and maintaining machinery.
4. Setting machinery both via a computer and manually.
5. Demonstrating flexibility in operating a variety of machinery proficiently.
6. Ensuring accurate records are maintained throughout production.
7. Helping your Team Leader improve all KPIs with effective utilization of labor.
8. Minimizing downtime by forward planning to ensure all materials are available well in advance.
9. Working with your Team Leader on process/continuous improvement projects.
10. Coordinating labor over meal breaks and ensuring allocated break times are adhered to.
Quality:
1. Establishing and maintaining quality awareness for raw sheet, work in progress, and finished goods within the team.
2. Ensuring rejects are identified and located in the appropriate area and dealt with in line with company procedure, and communicated to the Team Leader.
3. Monitoring all associated paperwork for compliance.
4. Actively looking for opportunities to improve quality for our customers.
5. Developing zero defects production by building an understanding of quality within the team, ensuring quality procedures are followed and continuous improvement.
Hygiene, Housekeeping & Environment:
1. Ensuring compliance with BRC (Basic Hygiene) operating procedures, maintaining Good Hygiene and Good Manufacturing Practices.
2. Managing and monitoring temporary staff working within your crews, ensuring they are compliant with basic hygiene standards.
3. Monitoring and intervening (where necessary) with contractors and visitors to ensure compliance with hygiene controls and awareness.
4. Ensuring Housekeeping standards are complied with, particularly the 'clean as you go' policy and line clearance procedure.
Control Waste:
1. Promoting reduction of energy wastage on machines by reporting air leaks.
2. Supporting your Team Leader to shut off radios/conveyors/fans during tea breaks, shift changeovers, and close downs.
3. Reporting, in a timely manner, any blocked drains/waste control issues.
