Communication and Team Working 1. To undertake allocated tasks within the plan of care as identified by the nurse in charge and in accordance with Betsi Cadwalder Policy and Procedures. 2. Exchanges factual information with patients using reassurance, tact, empathy and to overcome communication barriers. 3. To ensure the comfort and consideration of the patient and his/her family or friends and to relate with kindness and empathy. 4. To participate and co-operate with the nursing team and other disciplines to contribute to the effectiveness of the multidisciplinary t team as a whole. 5. Improve quality of service by generating and sharing good practices and discuss possible ways of improvement with the team. 6. Assist theatre receptionist with the control of visitors to the theatre and to provide cover for theatre receptionist when absent including general clerical duties. Patient Care 7. Receive patients from the ward nurse/pilot nurse into reception and demonstrate a clear understanding of the information received. 8. Ensure patients documentation supports safeguards and immediately bringing any discrepancies or concerns to the attention of the practitioner in charge of the relevant theatre. 9. Ensure patients safety at all times during their stay in reception. Ensure that all information is passed over to and understood by the receiving practitioner. 10. To accurately input information onto the computerised Theatre Information Systems. 11. Communicate basic information to patients and carers with reassurance, tact and sensitivity. 12. Undertake general observation of patients when required e.g. blood pressure and blood glucose measurements. 13. To report to the Registered Practitioner and/or Clinical Team any changes in condition or behaviour of the patients. 14. To display sensitivity to the individual needs of the patient whilst preserving dignity and respecting confidentiality. 15. To work closely with the Nursing Team and other disciplines to ensure that optimum patient care is provided, referring as appropriate to other team members. 16. Control the reception environment, ensuring that it is suitable for receiving and holding patients e.g. keeping noise level to a minimum. 17. Manage the operating list file with the theatre receptionist so that all lists are current and accurate and all relevant areas have received copies. 18. To undertake tasks assigned by the Registered Practitioner, informing him/her if delegated tasks are beyond the post holders level of competence. Resource and Change Management 19. Ensure adequate supply of stationary by ordering supplies on a weekly basis and linen on a daily basis. 20. General observation within the reception area regarding stock control, general tidiness and cleanliness. 21. To improve quality by generating and sharing good practises, and to discuss possible improvements with the team. 22. Report all incidents/accidents promptly and adhere to Health Board Policy. Education and Development 23. To undertake the mandatory training schedule within designated time scale and have an understanding of Heath & Safety issues. To participate in departmental meetings and study days. To have achieved NVQ level 3 in Health Care or relevant equivalent experience or willing to work towards NVQ Level 3 within 12 months in post. Be willing to support their own professional development and assist those less experienced. Participate in annual PDR in order to promote professional development. Clinical Governance 27 Take a proactive role in the management of risk i.e. risk assessments, reporting incidents, near misses and hazards 28 Assuming all reasonable precautions for a safe and secure environment for self and others in accordance with Health and Safety legislation reporting any areas of concerns to the line manager 29 Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others 30 Assist in the monitoring of standards and quality of nursing care 31 Promote peoples equality, diversity and rights. Professional accountability 32 Limiting ones actions to those which you feel competent to undertake 33 Be a patient advocate at all times 34 Act in accordance with the agreed duty of care expected from HCSW 35 Adhere to Trust policies and Procedures 36 Involve self with clinical audits. This job description is not inflexible. The duties of the post holder may be reviewed from time to time, and the employee may be called upon to work in other locations within the Health Board.
