An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Optometrist at North Devon District Hospital. The post holder will provide a range of core and specialist Optometric services and extended roles, supporting the Ophthalmology clinics at North Devon District Hospital, Bideford Hospital and South Molton Eye Clinic. The post holder will work autonomously in accordance with professional and regulatory body guidelines and codes of practice (The College of Optometrists and General Optical Council) and statutory Trust requirements.
Main duties of the job
As a key member of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, you will be joining an exceptional team working together to help our patients to stay healthy, when they need it most.
Job responsibilities
* To provide clinical care autonomously and in association with Ophthalmologists, Orthoptists, Ophthalmic Nurses and other professional and non-professional eye clinic staff.
* To make clinical management decisions for patients requiring an advanced Optometrist's knowledge and experience.
* To take on extended roles within the Ophthalmology department, for example within medical retinal/macula, glaucoma, corneal, paediatric and cataract clinics.
* To participate and contribute to training and teaching of other professionals, non-professional eye clinic staff and students.
* To lead a specialist area of core Optometry.
* To adapt communication style appropriately to effectively communicate with all professional and non-professional staff both within and outside of the Trust, patients, students and carers to promote the best patient care, and service delivery and development.
* To be responsible for managing own clinical workload in an adaptable manner and planning the service for sub-specialist area of leadership.
* To contribute to the development of department policies, protocols, clinical guidelines and patient information.
Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2024-5 rates, inclusive of a 5.5% pay award implemented from October 2024. If you join before this date, the pay award will be backdated to April 2024 or your start date, whichever is later. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 2023-4 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2023/24 | NHS Employers).
