Serco’s Environmental Services provide a complete waste and recycling service on behalf of the residents and community in Richmond. With a professional, dedicated, and friendly team, we ensure that streets, homes and businesses are kept clean, safe and tidy, whilst providing the very best levels of customer service to all members of the community that we serve. And right now, we have an opportunity for a like-minded Supervisor to join our team of essential key workers and help us make a positive difference to the environment we all live and work in.
You will be the public face of Serco’s Environmental Services team in the community. As a supervisor, you will induct, manage, motivate, and lead your team, ensuring they understand their KPIs and support them in achieving these and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement wherever possible. Your main responsibilities:
- Health and Safety Management, complying with HSE policy, standards, procedures and key controls; including the development of local operating procedures.
- Recording HSE incidents on ASSURE and investigating them in accordance with Group Procedures.
- Completing actions following compliance reviews/audits within agreed timescales.
- Supervise employees to ensure that the service provided meets the contract compliance standards laid down by the client through regular checks and monitoring of performance.
- Arrange and undertake training of employees at the contract and develop effective employee working relationships including being able to motivate the team, create an atmosphere of good team spirit and hold a good retention rate of quality employees.
- Be conversant with and be able to meet the provisions of the relevant statutory legislation surrounding our business and understand its importance to the working environment of the contract. Examples include Health and Safety, Employment, Environmental and Transport legislation.
- Ensure that contingency plans are prepared for unexpected occurrences, seasonal variations, and annual events, which have relevance to the services undertaken.
- Supervision, management, and leadership of the workforce ensuring sufficient cover is available and resources are used in the most effective and efficient manner.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- Experience of working in a Team Leader or Supervisor position, ideally leading a blue-collar workforce with a clean UK driving licence.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as be self-motivated with the willingness to undertake further training when required and work well within a team.
- IOSH Managing Safely is preferrable but not essential, the successful postholder will be required to undertake the qualification.
- Sound understanding of Health & Safety.
- HGV Class 2 licence is preferrable but not essential.
- Good IT skills, proficient using the full Microsoft suite.
