Weare inviting applications for a part time Specialty Doctor fixed term vacancy at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHSTrust in Department of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology
Thispost will commence in December 2024 and is fixed term for 2 years.
Candidatesmust be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license topractice by the intended start date.
Thispost is to provide medical leadership for a pilot project to develop ambulatorychemotherapy for paediatric and teenage patients undergoing chemotherapy inLeeds Childrens Hospital. Thesuccessful applicant will work 2 days a week alongside a full time lead nursefor the project with support from the paediatric pharmacy team. This post could be worked alongside a lessthan full time post but the days worked on this project must bering-fenced. This will provide an opportunityin medical leadership and project management as well as developing a muchneeded innovation in paediatric chemotherapy delivery.

Main duties of the job
Thepost holder will work with the project nurse and with the pharmacy project leadto develop ambulatory chemotherapy for our patients. This is a two-year fixedterm project, which we anticipate will develop a service which will becomestandard of care. Working 2 days a week( FTE) on this project, initially the post holder will develop a projectplan for the ambulatory chemotherapy service.The second phase will be to implement the plan, to carry out the patientconsent for participation and to supervise the initiation of ambulatorytreatment on a Monday and Tuesday. The post holder will supervise the medicalcare of the patients on treatment and will review the outcomes after eachcourse has been administered later in the week.
Thepost holder will communicate with the rest of the inpatient and day unit teamand will provide written summaries for the parent, the GP and the localpaediatrician where appropriate.

Thepost is based at the Leeds Childrens Hospital at the Leeds General Infirmaryin the heart of the city. Specialty Doctors are an integral part of ourPaediatric Haematology and Oncology Department.Some of our Specialty Doctors have been with us for over ten years,while others have used the experience gained through working in the post as astepping-stone to a consultant post after gaining the CCT.

Theconsultant team comprises: Dr Susan Picton (Lead Clinician), Dr Mike Richards,Dr Martin Elliott, Prof Bob Phillips, Dr Simone Wilkins, Dr Beki James, DrDanielle Ingham, Dr Chris Lethaby, Dr Jacob Grinfeld, Dr Amy Ruffle, Dr HemaDoss and Dr Jess Morgan in providing the regional paediatric oncology andhaematology service. Additionally, we have four specialty doctors based in theday unit and on the wards.
