Area Team Manager - Development Management
£52,805 - £54,780 per annum
We are seeking an experienced Team Manager to join our highly performing Development Management team of Planning Officers and Technical/Administrative Support Staff. We work closely together to manage development so that it respects and adds value to the special qualities of our built and natural environment across the district.
This role is for one of two Team Managers, each of whom manage a team of planners and a separate specialist team (either enforcement or biodiversity, trees and conservation). The Team Manager will performance manage, and line manage the officers in the teams and allocate cases, hold weekly case reviews and monthly one-to-ones, sign decisions, represent the council in appeals and at planning committee and deputise for the Head of Development Management. You will be a highly motivated individual with leadership qualities and a passion for creating great places.

You are a good Teignbridge District Council fit if you have:
* A relevant degree/diploma in Town and Country Planning and membership of RTPI. You will ideally have a management qualification to NVQ level 4 or equivalent.
* Extensive and broad experience, skills and knowledge of Development Management including a minimum of three years within a Local Planning Authority, including rural and large scale urban and detailed building design.
* Excellent people skills and experience of managing staff in a performance management environment, leading and coaching staff to be motivated and organised and manage their own workloads within defined timescales and use performance management tools to ensure that no statutory deadlines are missed.
* Experience of dealing with complex planning applications including prior approvals and major planning applications, with excellent report writing and presentation skills.
* Project management experience of complex multi-agency teams over large-scale, long-term projects with good communication and negotiation skills.
* Strong analytical skills and the ability to review, understand and absorb complex technical and numerical information. High level of problem-solving skills.
* Organised with good IT and technical skills.
