We have an exciting opportunity available for a dispenser to join our friendly and dedicated practice team. The suitable candidate will ideally be qualified to NVQ Level 2 in pharmacy services and have a 1000+ hours of relevant dispensary experience, with previous experience within Primary or Secondary Care and a background in dispensing.
Main duties of the job
We have a busy dispensary which aims to provide a friendly, personal, and efficient service to our patients. This includes dispensing acute and repeat prescriptions via our clinical IT system TTP SystmOne. A working knowledge of TTP SystmOne would be beneficial but is not essential as full training will be provided. The day-to-day duties include accurate and efficient dispensing, preparation of community monitored dosage systems, and answering patient queries.
This role includes receptionist duties both telephone and face-to-face. The use of the signposting toolkit to assist patients in accessing the most appropriate appointment or service. Booking appointments, processing repeat prescription requests, and dealing with patient queries. The dispensary/reception team need to be approachable, professional, and knowledgeable in assisting our patients.

The team consists of three GP Partners, GP Retainer, Practice Nurse, Healthcare Assistant, phlebotomist, care co-ordinator, Dispensary/Reception team, and secretarial team.

Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the Dispenser/Receptionist. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
1. To be responsible for checking all medicines dispensed, ensuring there are no discrepancies.
2. Dispensing medicines to the entitled population safely and accurately.
3. Collecting prescription charges in accordance with dispensary protocol.
4. Maintaining stock levels within the dispensary, liaising with the senior dispenser to facilitate reordering.
5. Receiving and storing supplies in accordance with current policy, ensuring the cold chain is maintained where applicable.
6. Ensuring controlled drugs are dispensed in accordance with practice policy.
7. Ensuring safe disposal of returned and/or out of date medicines.
8. Ensuring all repeat prescriptions are processed within a 72-hour timeframe.
9. Processing prescription requests via email, phone, face-to-face, and online.
10. Always maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
11. Always maintain accurate records, including appropriate coding entries.
12. Ensuring an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the Practice, receiving, assisting, and directing patients and visitors in accessing the appropriate service in a courteous way.
13. Offering general assistance to the Practice team, projecting a positive and friendly image either in person or by telephone, taking messages and passing on information.
14. Facilitating effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care, and other associated agencies.
15. Maintaining and monitoring of the Practice appointment system, processing face-to-face and telephone requests for urgent and routine appointments, home visits, and telephone consultations and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional.
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Dispenser/Receptionist may be requested to:
1. Partake in audit as directed by the audit lead.
2. Provide guidance for trainee dispensary staff and students as necessary.
3. Remain current with the latest guidance ensuring the dispensary conforms to NICE, CQC, etc. guidance.
