Job Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic, hard-working dental nurses to join the theatre team. The main role is to carry out scrub and provide chair-side assistance to clinicians within the dental service mainly in theatres, but you may be required to cover other departments within the hospital.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service.
2. Prepare and monitor patients for and during their dental treatment, providing pre and post-operative instructions as required.
3. Undertake the general care of the surgery including dental equipment/instruments and arrange any necessary repairs.
4. Ensure medical emergency drugs and equipment are available and up to date.
5. Provide chair-side assistance and postoperative instructions during general anaesthetic and exodontia sessions as required.
6. Provide oral health education to patients as required by the clinician.
7. Assist the theatre manager in the smooth running of the Theatre service.
8. Support and assist clinicians including all student disciplines.
9. Support and supervise all apprentice nurses and undergraduate groups.
Person Specification
Qualification Training
* A Dental Nurse qualification that enables registration with the General Dental Council i.e. NVQ Level 3, Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing or Dental Nursing National Certificate in Dental Nursing / Gained entry onto GDC register via grand-parenting (pre 2008).
* Post Qualifications e.g. Radiography, Sedation, Special Care, Oral Health or theatre course.
Experience
* Relevant experience working as part of a dental team as a dental nurse.
* Experience of working with children, elderly, medically compromised patients, and patients with learning disabilities.
* Experience of the operating theatre.
