Vectare Loughborough, England, United Kingdom
Graduate Transport Planner
Vectare is an award-winning transport consultancy and technology company, supplying educational establishments, corporate clients, and the public sector with creative solutions to enhance their transport provision.
We’re a young company, founded in 2016, which means we’re innovative, agile and a fun place to work. Our small team works to the highest standards and we expect everybody to focus on high quality service delivery and attention to detail. You’ll work closely with our Directors, and you’ll have much more access to, and insight from, these senior leaders than you would get in a larger business.
At Vectare, we believe very strongly in valuing our staff, both as people and for the contribution that they can make to all levels of the business. This means that we’ll treat you with respect, and we’ll expect you to extend that same respect to everybody who you work with, at all levels of the business.
Directors will frequently ask your opinion about high-level business decisions, and equally we’ll want and expect you to speak up if you think of something that we could be doing better. Feedback is an essential part of our culture, and as such we need you to feel confident about sharing your opinions with senior management - this is very important for our business growth.
We work closely with over 170 independent schools around the United Kingdom and in this role you will be the first point of contact to the senior management teams. This could range from resolving parental enquiries, to advising clients on the profitability of key transport decisions.
Role Overview
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Graduate Transport Planner to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will support the planning and optimisation of school bus networks, create and refine route timetables, assess bus stop requests, and collaborate with transport operators to ensure smooth operations. You will play a key role in delivering efficient, safe, and reliable transport solutions for independent school networks.
Key Responsibilities
1. Optimise Bus Networks – Use transport planning tools and data analysis to enhance school bus routes and overall network efficiency.
2. Create Route Timetables – Develop and maintain accurate timetables to ensure effective scheduling and service delivery.
3. Assess Stop Requests – Evaluate and respond to school and parent requests for new bus stops, balancing accessibility with operational feasibility.
4. Liaise with Transport Operators – Work closely with bus operators to ensure effective service implementation, address concerns, and facilitate operational improvements.
5. Training and Support – Provide training and guidance to transport operators on technology systems, schedules, and best practices.
6. Data Analysis & Reporting – Gather and analyse transport data to assess performance, identify trends, and suggest improvements.
7. Customer & Stakeholder Engagement – Communicate with schools, parents, and transport providers to enhance service quality and responsiveness.
8. Ensure Compliance – Support adherence to safety, regulatory, and service standards within independent school transport operations.
Requirements
1. A degree in Transport Planning, Geography, Civil Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
2. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
3. Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
4. Proficiency in transport planning software, GIS tools, or data analytics (desirable but not essential).
5. An understanding of public transport operations and scheduling principles (preferred).
6. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
7. Passion for improving school transport and sustainable mobility solutions.
About You:
