North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is a medium acute District General Hospital in Enfield North London that serves the diverse communities of Enfield, Haringey and beyond.
Our General Ultrasound scan department operates a comprehensive 7-day service with 5 on-site general Ultrasound scanning rooms, 7 Obstetric scan rooms, 2 gynaecology scan rooms and 2 scan rooms in Women's Ambulatory Day Unit. The antenatal obstetric Ultrasound scan services are available Monday to Saturday. We operate limited sessions in Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) twice a week.
Due to a recent vacancy, we are looking for an agile part time permanent sonographer to join our team of Sonographers and contribute to ongoing commitments to continuous improvement and high-quality service delivery. They must be competent in General, Gynaecology and Obstetrics Ultrasound scanning including independent diagnostic report writing.
The successful candidate would be expected to participate in weekend and evening rota, however a degree of flexibility is possible with many of our Sonographers working compressed hours to allow a 3 or 4 day working week.
Main duties of the job
1. To demonstrate skills in a wide range of obstetric and general ultrasound examinations, including transvaginal scanning.
2. To maintain professional occupational standards of technical skill and legally take responsibility to ensure a high standard of clinical care.
3. To interpret and analyse findings in accordance with agreed protocols.
4. To explain the abnormal ultrasound findings to obstetric patients and make appropriate referrals to the Clinicians.
5. To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients in working area, and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
6. To independently provide a diagnostic report on all examinations.
7. To be able to appropriately communicate highly complex, sensitive or contentious information about scan findings to patients and their family.
8. Demonstrate excellence in one or more sub-specialities, when required.
9. To participate in the Quality Assurance Programme in accordance with the policies of the department including equipment care and maintenance.
10. To have a flexible approach towards working hours in order to address service needs and maximise efficient use of equipment.
Job responsibilities
1. The post holder will have attained the Obstetric and Gynaecology, Abdominal modules in Medical Ultrasound, and certification of competency for Nuchal Translucency scanning.
2. The post holder must demonstrate a high level of ultrasound scanning skills and will work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.
3. You will have autonomous responsibility for performing and reporting a wide range of ultrasound examinations.
4. You will be expected to be able to work independently under pressure, but your support network will be as part of the ultrasound team.
5. You will be required to work to a high standard in keeping with departmental guidelines and protocols with regard to patient care, and expected to participate in CPD and clinical audit.
6. A Postgraduate qualification in ultrasound is required and you must be registered with the Health Professions Council or equivalent.

Education and Qualifications
* Post graduate Qualification in Medical Ultrasound
* HCPC registration or equivalent
* Experience working in the NHS
* Nuchal Translucency certificate
Skills and abilities
* Excellent interpersonal, communication and motivational skills. Able to speak and write English to a high standard.
* Awareness of statutory regulations related to Radiology and Maternity
* Knowledge of FASP screening standards
* Understanding FDS, RTT pathways as part of the 62 day standard.
Experience
* Experience in Ultrasound scanning, teaching, assessing and presentations
* Able to manage equipment maintenance
* Experience of working clinically in Radiology and/or Obs and Gynae.
* Experience in the use of IT systems and programmes to a high level including RIS, PACS, word, excel
* Able to work well within a small team, to work without supervision and also to take direction from senior colleagues.
* Able to show reflection and subsequent improvement in techniques when involved in incidents.
* Good level of physical fitness and able to cope with the rigours of US scanning.
* Can demonstrate a desire to put the patient first.
