IR Day Case Unit Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse

University Hospitals Dorset have an exciting opportunity which has arisen for a band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge nurse to work as part of a small team on a newly created day unit on Royal Bournemouth Hospital site.
This unit will provide much needed day care for Interventional Radiology patients.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide specialist nursing care to patients who are undergoing IR procedures.
* To provide a high standard of quality care and patient experience without direct supervision across the IR day care unit.
* To practice autonomously (within the requirements of UHD and the NMC code of practice) and be responsible and accountable for safe, compassionate person-centred evidence-based nursing that respects and maintains dignity and human rights.
* Take charge of the unit on a daily basis - ensuring an efficient and safe flow of patients.
* To support the Clinical Lead in the leadership, management and organisation of the IR Day Case Unit.
* Assist in developing and maintaining a suitable and stimulating learning environment for the on-going professional development of registered staff.
* To support the Trust strategy of delivering a quality healthcare service for patients and their families.
* To work within and to support the Trust objectives and the ward department philosophy and standards.
Job responsibilities
To support the day to day running of the IR Day Case unit, to ensure that patients are well cared for, safe and that procedure lists run on time and efficiently.
* To ensure high standards of safety and quality are adhered to on the unit, always putting the patient first and protecting them from harm.
* Facilitate high quality individualised care to patients during their care pathway.
* Will be visible, accessible and promote nursing professional standards within the unit and act as a role model to other nursing staff.
* Will demonstrate excellent communication skills and will be responsible for assisting the Clinical Lead in the day-to-day line management of the nursing team, ensuring an effective skill mix to support services and at all times.
* Will work collaboratively with the Clinical Lead and others within the team, fully supporting current service provision and proposed or planned expansion of services.
* Will address issues relating to the resourcing of staff or contingency plans to maintain optimal operational services, e.g. sickness cover.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* NMC Registered nurse, educated to diploma or degree level
* Teaching and assessing course, Mentorship in practice course or NMC supervising learners in practice approved
* Evidence of a post registration qualification or approved training course related to surgery or interventional radiology or in leadership and management
Experience
* Experience in Interventional Radiology (or a similar interventional speciality) or surgical ward experience or working in a day case unit
* Ability to demonstrate professional knowledge and expertise underpinning transferable general nursing duties.
* IV cannulation
* Medication and prescription management non-IV and IV medication and blood products
* Recruitment and Selection skills
* Skills for accessing data bases relating to radiology information systems
Knowledge
* Shows a good understanding of peripheral vascular disease, urology and gastro-intestinal disease
* Evidence and awareness for leadership/management skills and experience with implementing change
* Understanding of Trust Policies and NHS Policies on Quality Improvement projects
* Trust Quality Strategies
* Awareness of patient experience, quality and safety agendas that support Governance Frameworks
* Involvement in policy and SOP development
* Implementation of service development and changes

Salary: £37,338 to £44,962 a yearpa - pro rata if part time
