About the role EMS Radio Fire and Security is a Carrier business unit based in Herne Bay in Kent, the garden of England. EMS specialises in the design of wireless fire detection and evacuation products that communicate without the need for cables using our industry leading radio technology. As part of the multidisciplined engineering team at EMS, you will support the design of new and innovative products in this wireless fire detection space contributing your own valuable expertise and experience in embedded hardware design. EMS has excellent test and prototyping capabilities that you will be able to leverage as part of your role to quickly design, prototype and verify your designs and see them deployed into use. The role includes the following key duties: Design, integrate, document, and release to production new wireless fire detection products, including panels, sensors, wireless communication devices, user interfaces, etc. Develop specifications for electronic products, assemblies and parts. Create schematic drawings and PCB layouts of product designs principally using the Altium designer CAD package. Integrate existing technologies into new product designs. Plan and perform tests to verify that products achieve performance and reliability goals. Identify appropriate equipment and processes needed to verify design performance data. Ensure regulatory and safety compliance by providing the required information and documentation required for third party approval processes. Resolve design and component related production and sustaining engineering problems. Redesign circuits when necessary to solve obsolescence problems. Initiate changes to optimize product designs to improve product performance, minimize costs and support production throughput and quality performance. Determine material and equipment needs to ensure sufficient resources for project completion. Develop or perform operational, maintenance, or testing procedures for electronic products, components, equipment, or systems to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of engineering processes. Support the manufacturing process through definition of factory test requirements to ensure maximum test coverage and manufactured product quality. Utilize in-house prototyping facilities to create early prototypes of new designs for verification to speed up the development cycle time. Provide accurate estimates and scope of work to the project management teams for the effective planning of product development programmes. Who we’re looking for Must have Advanced knowledge of embedded electronics design obtained through a recognised university degree. Ability to create complex circuit designs and create schematic drawings using modern CAD tools. A minimum of 3 years prior relevant experience. Nice to have Experience working with battery powered devices. Experience working with RF designs and associated standards for ensuring compliance with regulatory norms. Practical knowledge of Carrier organization, programmes, or systems. Good understanding of embedded software and automated test methods for cross functional team collaboration.
