Main duties of the job
The post holder will work predominantly withinthe Department of Paediatric Dentistry, Maxillofacial and Orthodontics.
Role modelbehaviours in accordance with the Trust Behavioural Framework.
Ensure bestpossible dental nursing care and practice including those with complex medical,physical and emotional needs.
Provide closesupport to dentistry, maintaining high standards of patient care and infectioncontrol.
Learn new skillsin line with new practices, qualifications and modernisation.

Job responsibilities
The post holderwill be expected to:
Be responsible forthe delivery of clinical expertise in all aspects of the clinical settingacting as a visible practitioner in the Department.
To have theresponsibility for the preparation and organisation of dental units whereclinical procedures will be undertaken.
Collaborate withother health care professionals in the delivery of high standards of effectiveDental care within best practice guidelines in clinical outpatient setting aswell as dental theatre.
Followingappropriate training, participate in conscious sedation and other proceduresunder the supervision and direction of the Dentist.
Monitor thepatients physical signs prior to, during and post treatment enabling earlyrecognition of condition changes and ensuring appropriate corrective action isinstituted.
Provide fourhandeddentistry throughout the patients treatment, anticipating the cliniciansneeds and any possible complications which may arise including assistance inthe management of medical and dental emergencies.
Demonstrateawareness of legislation child protection, vulnerable adults, mentalhealth issues and act appropriately when required.
Practice inaccordance with the GDC Code of Professional Conduct in order that a safe andquality service is provided.
Promote andcollaborate in developing good working relationships with departments to ensurethe patient journey is effective and efficient.
Ensure thatpatient documentation is accurate and defensible disseminating all relevantchanges in the patients condition to MDT.
Contribute toclinical governance processes including adverse incident reporting.
To promote healtheducation to patients attending the department.
Undertake, performand assess enhanced skills within the clinical area, to improve the patientexperience and journey
Ensure competencein the correct use of all the equipment used in the clinical setting inaccordance with instructions and department procedures, reporting any faults asnecessary.
Work independentlyand have responsibility for own actions when delivering dental nursing care.
Achieve andmaintain high standards of cleanliness and infection control in line withcurrent Code of Practice.
Process anddevelop radiographs, complying with current regulations.
Demonstrate anoverall awareness of quality issues and a commitment to continuous qualityimprovement.

Experience
Essential
1. Recent experience of working as part of a dental team.
2. Experience of a hospital setting.
3. Knowledge of Interest in oral health promotion.
4. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers and staff at all levels.
5. Basic IT skills.
6. Ability to prioritise tasks.
7. Ability to work as part of a team.
Qualifications
Essential
8. Registered Dental Nurse qualification or NVQ Level 3 in Oral Healthcare.
9. Must be registered with the General Dental Council as a Dental Care Professional.
10. Any post qualification certificate(s) in any of the following: Radiology, Sedation, Orthodontics, Oral Health.
11. Evidence of maintaining/updating relevant continued professional development with Personal development plan in accordance with enhanced CPD guidance.
