About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead the delivery of design services across forward programming, feasibility studies, detailed design, works pricing, procurement, and project handover. This role emphasises sustainable design, innovation, and operational excellence, ensuring client satisfaction and compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
·Manage the full project lifecycle, from design to construction and closeout.
·Ensure compliance with DMRB, NEC3 contracts, and Health & Safety legislation.
·Build strong client relationships, advising on key risks and issues.
·Lead and mentor a high-performing team, including graduates and apprentices.
·Drive cost efficiencies, financial reporting, and adherence to corporate processes.
·Promote innovation and best practices in project delivery.
Candidate Requirements
·Chartered Engineer (Civil Engineering) or equivalent, with NEC Project Manager certification.
·Significant senior management experience in highways or TMC environments.
·Strong knowledge of highway works, maintenance, and DMRB standards.
·Proven ability to manage risks, negotiate effectively, and deliver sustainable solutions.
·Experience in financial oversight, including cost and value reporting.
Key Competencies:
·Ability to clearly advise clients on project risks and service delivery in written and verbal formats.
·Skilled in negotiating with clients, stakeholders, subcontractors, and third parties on technical, programme, and commercial aspects.
·Proven track record in delivering innovation and implementing best practices.
·Strong leadership in training and developing graduates and apprentices.
·Experience in financial reporting, including cost, value, and turnover.
