This is an exciting opportunity for a full-time (10PA) Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist within the Liaison team in Derby. This post has arisen due to the current post holder leaving due to personal reasons.
The liaison team is a well-established team within the adult acute division working closely with the acute trust and Royal Derby Hospital. This post is one of 3.2 consultant posts in a well-staffed team based in Royal Derby Hospital, Uttoxeter Road, Derby, DE22 3NE.
This post offers a varied job, working within the multidisciplinary team. We put a high emphasis on quality of care, peer support, and clinical engagement in service development and management. We welcome candidates who bring enthusiasm for innovation, teaching, and development and can work closely with colleagues from different professional backgrounds.
The liaison team is PLAN accredited and works to CORE 24 standards.
A special interest in alcohol and substance misuse is desirable for this role.
The successful candidate will be expected to start in post from February 2025. Higher Speciality Trainees/HSTs within 6 months of completing their CCT in General Adult Psychiatry or dual training in General Adult and Older Age Psychiatry are welcome to apply for the role.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to take a leadership role in the development and clinical work of the team, providing the medical voice in MDT meetings for working-age adults, and work closely with the other team consultants, team manager, and clinical leads to support and develop the service.
You will establish excellent working relationships with partners in Royal Derby Hospital and within Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
You will undertake comprehensive assessment of patients presenting to Royal Derby Hospital with complex comorbidities, i.e., physical, psychiatric, and substance misuse, evaluating the risks, and working towards effective and safe discharge planning from hospital.
Be the nominated RC for patients who are detained under the MHA to the Royal Derby Hospital in line with the agreed procedure with acute trust partners.
Contribute to undergraduate teaching for medical students, typically from the Lincoln and Nottingham universities.
Participate in research projects with support from the trust's excellent research department in local, regional, and national studies.
