They are seeking a dynamic, compassionate, and resilient Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role is focused on supporting students with challenging behaviour, helping them engage with learning and succeed academically.
Role Overview:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students displaying challenging behaviours, helping them to manage their emotions and behaviour while ensuring they receive an effective education. You will be an integral part of a supportive team that works with teachers, pastoral staff, and other professionals to provide tailored interventions and support strategies.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with challenging behaviours, focusing on their social, emotional, and academic development.
2. Implement behaviour management strategies and support the student in regulating their behaviour in a calm and constructive manner.
3. Work alongside teachers to deliver personalised learning plans, adjusting strategies as required to meet individual student needs.
4. Use de-escalation techniques and assist with behaviour interventions to support students during times of difficulty.
5. Provide emotional support to students and promote their self-esteem and confidence.
6. Encourage positive interaction with peers and foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
7. Support the monitoring and recording of progress and behaviour, reporting any concerns to relevant staff.
8. Collaborate with external agencies, parents, and carers to support the student's overall wellbeing and development.
9. Support students during transitions, including movement between lessons and lunchtime, ensuring their safety and engagement.
Requirements:
1. Experience working with students displaying challenging behaviours, preferably in a secondary school setting.
2. Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and an understanding of how to implement them effectively.
3. Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
4. A calm, patient, and resilient approach to managing challenging situations.
5. Ability to work as part of a team and also take initiative when needed.
6. A proactive and flexible approach to supporting students with diverse needs.
7. A commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of children.
8. Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) is desirable.
9. Experience working with students with special educational needs (SEN).
10. Training in de-escalation techniques or behaviour management strategies (e.g., Team Teach or similar).
11. Knowledge of secondary education and the challenges students face in a secondary school environment.
