Site Agent Role Summary
Role Purpose
To lead and oversee a section of the works within a specific discipline, managing a team of Section Engineers and Site Engineers to ensure the successful delivery of project objectives on HS2 in Birmingham.
Dimensions
* Financial:
o Identifies changes in work scope and assesses their commercial and contractual impacts.
o Prepares and manages contract documentation to support commercial recovery.
o Monitors and manages the section budget.
* Organisational:
o Collaborates with other Sub Agents.
o Leads and mentors a team of Section Engineers.
* Key Interfaces:
o Internal: Operations Team, Health & Safety Team, Commercial Team.
o External: Subcontractors, periodic interactions with clients and other stakeholders.
Accountabilities
Core
* Uphold and embody the organization's values.
* Support the delivery of sustainability initiatives.
Health, Safety & Environmental
* Review and enhance Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
* Lead Accident/Incident Investigations using established frameworks.
* Conduct field audits and identify areas for improvement through trend analysis.
* Implement and manage Permits to Work, including Confined Space and Hot Works permits.
* Ensure understanding and timely implementation of temporary works.
Engineering Control
* Provide guidance and coaching on setting out techniques and technical requirements.
* Lead the resolution of construction challenges using best practices.
Quality
* Oversee the production, checking, and submission of handover documentation.
* Implement systems to ensure construction aligns with specifications, including material approvals and addressing non-conformance.
* Conduct inspections and audits to ensure compliance and drive improvements.
* Collaborate with designers to resolve technical issues.
Productivity
* Develop fully resourced stage programs using accepted formats/software.
* Monitor and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive improvements.
* Ensure alignment of section programs with three-week lookahead programs.
Commercial
* Maintain accurate site diaries and manage subcontractor relationships.
* Produce budgets and monitor weekly costs.
* Participate in subcontractor procurement and correspondence.
* Understand cost and value impacts on the project.
Experience/Criteria
Required Skills and Attributes:
* Strong communicator with a solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
* Capable of taking ownership of tasks and managing teams effectively.
* Flexible work ethic with the ability to work unsociable hours as needed.
* Holds a valid driving license and CSCS card, with SSSTS or SMSTS qualifications.
* Demonstrates strong leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills.
Health, Safety & Environmental:
* Thorough understanding of method statements, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
* Familiarity with accident/incident investigation principles and processes.
* Knowledgeable about current health and safety legislation.
Engineering Control:
* Comprehensive understanding of setting out techniques and construction requirements.
* Resource allocation expertise and problem-solving capabilities.
Quality:
* Strong understanding of business management systems and handover requirements.
Productivity:
* Proficiency in creating and monitoring fully resourced stage programs.
* Knowledge of construction processes in areas such as earthworks, drainage, structures, and roadworks.
Commercial:
* Awareness of procurement practices and the ability to maintain detailed records for commercial purposes.
