Climate17 is excited to be working with a heat network consultancy playing a leading role in the decarbonisation of heat in the UK.
You will be responsible for ensuring that the project deliverables you work on meet the client requirements and are delivered on time and budget across a wide range of design activities.
The role will require a mix of technical engineering, stakeholder management and project management competence and experience. You must be engaged in your own personal development, as it is essential that Consulting Engineers within the District Heating Design Department have a strong technical understanding of the areas and services that are carried out within the department.
It is expected that you will be working towards Chartered Engineer status in your relevant engineering discipline.
Requirements:
Essential
* A minimum of 2 years of experience within a Consulting Engineering role within the building services industry, ideally with a focus on communal heating systems and district heating systems / heat networks.
* Good understanding of heat network design, construction, commissioning and operation, particularly with regards to common pitfalls and key failures often seen in the industry.
* Ability to produce the calculations, deliverables and specifications across RIBA3 and RIBA4 heating and hot water systems.
* Proficiency across Microsoft Office packages.
Desirable
* An ability to develop drawings on AutoCAD, QGIS and EnergyPro.
* Direct experience of designing and delivering energy centre, network and building connection designs.
* Knowledge of relevant industry documentation such as CIBSE CP1.
Responsibilities:
Your role will consist primarily of project and design development from modelling, through to detailed design. It is expected that you would be working with existing building owners to understand their existing systems and new build developers to support their design development; and undertaking early stage techno-economic optioneering. Moving into detailed design stage you would be undertaking hourly load energy modelling, producing peak load and network pipe sizing calculations; sizing and selecting of energy centre equipment; producing plant room schematics and layouts; producing specification documents, including technical specifications, schedules, description of operations and controls philosophy, pre-commissioning and water quality specifications, CDM design risk assessments; ensuring that the relevant pre-construction information is provided by the building owner and passed on to the contractors if acting as Principal Designer on the project.
You will be expected to:
* Attend regular design team meetings with project stakeholders to discuss design progress and any project risks.
* Maintain the district heating design and project management documentation to ensure that the project is delivered in line with internal quality standards, the design is delivered on time and to budget, and various project risks are appropriately managed as the project progresses through to RIBA4 design completion.
* Work closely with the client and heat off takers to guide all the project through the design development and commercialisation process.
* Work alongside Quality Assurance team who will be responsible for responding to requests for information, conducting contractor design reviews, reviewing changes proposed by the contractor and then reviewing compliance with specifications at installation, commissioning and handover to ensure that the design intent is achieved at handover of the system.
As a Consulting Engineer, you may be asked to mentor our Graduate Engineers ensuring the upskilling and knowledge growth of these individuals. To help you do this, you will follow an initial training programme.
