+ Responsible for the leadership, management, and delivery of Radiotherapy Services. For the planning and co-ordinating to ensure cost effective and high-quality health care services are delivered to serve approximately 1300 new referrals per annum.
+ Delegated authority for Radiotherapy Services for the management and compliance of Cancer Waiting Times standards and CQUINs targets for Radiotherapy and for the Radiotherapy measures within the Manual of Cancer Services.
+ Strategic planning and leadership and creation of business cases for required capital schemes and service changes such as replacement of high-cost equipment e.g. Linear Accelerators, The Trust is in the process of significant investment into oncology services, with service redesign to support a robust and resilient service moving forwards. The Oncology Department at Torbay Hospital is concentrated on one site and boasts, a chemotherapy day unit (with a sea view), a suite of dedicated oncology outpatient rooms and 18 bed oncology/haematology ward.
The radiotherapy department has 2 Elekta VersaHD linear accelerators, Pinnacle 3D planning system, and a new dedicated wide bore CT for treatment planning with 4DCT. Our near future plans involve the commissioning of a new Planning system along with an SGRT system. Long term future plans will involve preparing for a back-to-back Linac commissioning program in 2027. Lung SABR Treatment commenced in 2021 and is expanding such that we are in the process of commissioning Bone & Nodal Treatments, which are expected to start in early 2024.
You will be joining a committed and friendly team of 8 Clinical and 3 Medical Oncologists, supported by 3 Specialty Doctors, 2 Clinical Fellow posts and 3 registrars from the Peninsula Postgraduate School of Medicine.Combined with a team of experienced cancer nurse specialists and radiographers with independent clinics. We also have a successful cancer clinical trials team with a varied commercial and non-commercial portfolio., + Manage the services efficiently and effectively to achieve agreed service standards and national targets, prioritising workloads, and effective use of staff time to ensure financial balance within the agreed budget.
+ Responsible for the quality of the service, ensuring professional standards are maintained as measured by national standards, external accreditation schemes and external quality assurance scheme ISO9001:2015
+ Ensure readiness of compliance against quality standard ISO9001:2015 for re-certification
+ Responsible for leading the multi professional workforce.
+ Co-ordinate workforce planning for the services to ensure appropriate staffing levels and skill mix both for the present and into the future.
+ Provide professional support and advice to the Clinical Leads in Oncology in matters relating to the operations of the department.
+ Be part of a multi-disciplinary team involved in the procurement of equipment.
+ Maintain clinical knowledge and awareness of local and national developments in radiotherapy, attending National Radiotherapy Managers Meetings
+ Act as a clinical expert and leader within all aspects of the Radiotherapy service.
+ To identify areas of cost pressure and produce expenditure action plans as necessary.
+ To liaise with other departmental managers and Care Groups to facilitate policy decision making and service development including those from other healthcare provider organisations.
+ Provides business analyst with appropriate information/statistical data to inform the strategic/ business planning process.
+ Ensures that the information and support needs of all patients and carers attending the Oncology Centre are met and that their privacy and dignity is always respected.
+ Represents the services on multi-disciplinary/cross functional issues to ensure the needs of the service and patients are recognised and included in future developments: e.g. meetings of RCR, SCoR, South West Radiotherapy Meetings, ODN, Regional and National Radiotherapy Managers, National project teams, user groups.
+ Responsible for department policy, for innovating and leading the workforce and service developments to ensure within available resources that the service to patients is delivered to the highest standards and in line with waiting list targets and emerging best clinical practice.
+ Responsible for the delivery of therapeutic radiography services, to include those acting as dosimetrists and effective liaison with other clinical departments to deliver optimal and seamless treatment and care.
+ Interprets national quality standards relating to cancer services, assesses compliance with these and seeks to address any shortfalls. Prepares evidence for inspection teams.
+ Upload data onto the radiotherapy Specialised Services Quality Dashboards(SSQD)
+ Ensure compliance against national service specifications through Specialised Commissioning
