The Role
As the Director of Operations, you will provide visionary leadership across UK dispensary sites, encompassing customer order fulfilment, warehousing, logistics, and associated processes/procedures. Managing hundreds of thousands of deliveries per week in a dynamic 7-day operation, you will ensure seamless integration of cold chain logistics, automation, and robotics as essential components of the workflow.
You will be the driving force behind the transformation of our operations, driving efficiency and innovation while fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and excellence. As a key member of the leadership team, you will play a critical role in delivering exceptional value to customers, suppliers, and stakeholders for our dispensing operations in Cardiff and beyond, ensuring they remain at the forefront of industry advancements.
You’ll be:
* Setting the strategic direction for operations and ensuring alignment with the company’s growth goals.
* Overseeing and optimising the operational budget, implementing cost-efficiency plans, and ensuring resources are allocated effectively.
* Driving operational efficiency through data analysis, process refinement, and the adoption of innovative tools and technologies.
* Working closely with the Finance, Commercial, Product and Engineering teams to deliver a fully verticalised customer service that integrates digital and physical components.
* Obsessing about customer experience, ensuring best in class SLAs, high accuracy standards, and low error rates across all functions.
* Developing and enforcing robust standard operating procedures (SOPs), risk assessments, and regulatory compliance measures.
* Coaching and developing the operations team to achieve outstanding performance, fostering a culture of accountability, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.
* Taking full accountability for health, safety, and environmental compliance and embedding a proactive safety-first culture across all sites.
* Establishing and maintaining rigorous security standards to safeguard stock, assets, and data.
* Leading equipment maintenance plans and exploring emerging technologies to enhance operational resilience.
We’re looking for someone who:
* Has a Bachelor’s degree in Management, Operations, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
* Has a proven track record of successfully leading complex, multi-site operations teams at a senior leadership level, particularly in scaled physical operations for a tech-enabled business serving millions of customers.
* Has experience in using technology and automation (including robotics) to transform and scale logistics/fulfilment operations.
* Is a strategic thinker who can align operational priorities with broader business objectives and leverage excellent analytical skills through clear, data-led decision-making.
* Excels in team leadership, with experience in handling employee relations, shaping organisational culture, and leading through change.
* Demonstrates expertise in managing health, safety, and environmental matters, particularly in regulated or industrial environments. Experience working within GPhC or CQC-regulated frameworks is a plus.
* Is comfortable travelling in the UK and abroad, and working across multiple sites as needed.
* Possesses advanced proficiency in operational management tools and data analytics.
It’s a bonus if you have:
* Experience working within a regulated framework, such as MHRA or similar.
* Certifications or practical experience with Six Sigma, Lean methodologies, or equivalent process improvement frameworks.
