Band 7 Occupational Therapist for ED, Frailty & Short Stay Assessment

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist with previous experience in core areas of Occupational Therapy to jointly lead our urgent care team.
You will be responsible for the provision of our service to the emergency department, OPAL unit, same day emergency care unit and short stay assessment areas.
The team will include Occupational Therapy staff at all levels, and this post will provide an exciting opportunity for the development of inter-professional skills, working closely with other disciplines, especially our physiotherapy staff and community partners. You will build on clinical knowledge by having previous experience in core areas of Occupational Therapy within an acute care setting as well as ED experience. There will be a responsibility to take on deputy duties within this role to support the Therapies Manager in the day-to-day running of the department.
This is a part-time position of 28 hours per week. Working pattern can be negotiated on appointment into the role but will include weekend working.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide skilled team leadership in planning and delivering high standards of Therapy assessment, management, treatment and advice to patients within the ED, OPAL and Short Stay wards.
2. Work as part of an integrated therapy service with both OT and physio professionals.
3. Take a major role in the advanced assessment and management of patients within this specialty who may have a complex presentation and/or a multi-pathology presentation, determining best delivery of care, in conjunction with the MDT.
4. Work as an autonomous professional according to the Royal College of Occupational Therapist "Code of Conduct" and "Standards of Occupational Therapy", and the HCPC regulations.
5. Undertake service reviews/audits in order to evaluate quality, efficiency and outcomes with a view to implementing change of practice, to ensure that a high standard of clinical practice and patient care is maintained.
6. Develop relationships with professional colleagues locally, regionally and nationally if required to develop clinical pathways relevant to the specialty.
7. Take a lead role in the supervision and appraisal of Qualified and non-qualified therapists & students to graduate level, including training for MDT staff in the therapeutic care of patients within this specialty.
8. Champion core principles of Home First approach and discharge home to assess model.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree / Diploma Occupational Therapy
* Registration with HCPC as Occupational Therapist
* Evidence of relevant CPD at postgraduate level education.
* Member of RCOT
Experience
* Experience in a broad range of specialities including respiratory, neurological, Community working, oncology, Older people/elderly rehab, Medicine & general surgery, Orthopaedics, Falls, Pain and posture management, Neurology, Dementia, and respiratory conditions.
* Experience of working in an acute hospital as part of an Occupational Therapy team and/or MDT.
* Experience in supervision, mentorship and appraisal of students and junior staff.
* Relevant clinical experience managing difficult conversations.
Skills
* Able to work across a 7 day pattern with extended hours.
