Messenger Engineer
Job Type: Contract / Inside IR35
Location: Stevenage - onsite
Salary: £500 per day
Clearance level: Active DV clearance, or SC with ability to progress to DV during contract
We are seeking a Messenger Engineer with a strong background in Microsoft Exchange, Skype for Business, and ideally familiarity with Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES). The ideal candidate will have a robust understanding of email protocols, experience with email archiving solutions, and knowledge of Active Directory integration with messaging systems. This role is perfect for someone who is a team player, flexible, and possesses excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Day-to-day of the role:
* Manage Exchange servers, including mailbox databases, connectors, and transport rules.
* Configure and troubleshoot mail flow, mailbox permissions, and distribution groups.
* Monitor and optimize Exchange server performance and security.
* Support Skype for Business services, including setup, configuration, and troubleshooting.
* Manage user accounts, presence, and conferencing features.
* Provide Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) administration and support.
* Respond to and resolve escalated incidents related to messaging and collaboration tools.
* Implement and enforce security policies and controls for messaging platforms.
* Participate in security audits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
* Conduct patching and upgrades of Exchange and Skype systems.
* Engage in capacity management reporting and attend bi-weekly engineering meetings.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Proven experience in administering Microsoft Exchange (2013/2016/2019) and Skype for Business.
* Familiarity with Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) administration is desired.
* Strong understanding of email protocols such as SMTP, IMAP, and POP.
* Experience with email archiving solutions and compliance requirements.
* Knowledge of Active Directory integration with messaging systems.
* Knowledge of VMware, NetApp SAN, and Cohesity backups is advantageous.
* Experience with Microsoft Teams and automation of BAU processes is beneficial.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to work within multi-disciplined teams and develop good relationships.
* Strong decision-making, planning, and organisational skills.
