Key Responsibilities
The Senior Medical Writer is responsible for providing high quality medical and scientific writing from planning and coordination through delivery of final drafts for submission/publication with a preferred focus on Oncology or Immunology. In addition to your CV, please submit a cover letter and writing sample.
1. Drafting, editing and referencing scientific/medical publications (e.g., manuscripts, review articles, abstracts, posters, slide presentations) and other related materials (e.g., medical education materials) as required.
2. Develop outlines and drafts of publication and training materials.
3. Review, edit and data check original content developed by staff or external authors for publication activities, to ensure accuracy.
4. Develop, implement and manage the delivery of projects.
5. Attain and maintain knowledge of relevant therapeutic areas and clearly communicate scientific concepts in a condensed, audience-appropriate way.
6. Collaborate with other functions, including Clinical Development and Translational Research groups, and external stakeholders to develop content with a coherent and concise narrative that is consistent with the publication strategy and company messaging, scientifically accurate with consistent nomenclature, grammatically accurate, referenced using appropriate sources and consistent with quality standards for author review and journal peer review.
7. Incorporating comments and answering queries on publications from authors, staff and external peer review.
8. Follow internal procedures and workflows and keep up to date with published guidelines (GPP4, ICMJE) for authorship and good publication practices.
9. Providing additional ad-hoc support for projects within Research and Development where appropriate.
Experience, Knowledge & Skills
Essential:
1. Master's or PhD in a relevant life science subject, preferably oncology or immunology.
2. Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 5+ years) with proven publication track record.
3. Excellent data interpretation and medical writing skills, including grammatical, editorial and proofreading skills.
4. Strong project management, prioritization and problem-solving skills.
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong presentation skills.
6. Ability to learn rapidly and apply knowledge in previously unfamiliar therapeutic areas; ability to review and summarize scientific literature.
7. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
8. Worked to a high level with organizational and IT skills.
9. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and reference management software.
Desirable:
1. Experience in Immuno-oncology preferred.
2. Experience as a medical or scientific writer for a group or organization; experience working in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry preferred.
3. Working knowledge of GraphPad Prism and/or Adobe Illustrator.
Education & Qualifications
Masters or PhD in Life Sciences. Cover letter and writing sample required.
