As the Control and Instrumentation Design Engineer you will support the engineering design of projects by developing the C&I design and producing C&I design documentation. The site project team portfolio is a circa £10m/yr size portfolio consisting of several projects to improve and replace assets of the Royston Site. Projects are mainly asset renewal upgrades and some growth projects. Projects executed by this team will be largely self-delivered and self-designed, without the use of external design companies.
As the C&I Design Engineer you will contribute to ensuring the sites remain compliant with legislation and implementing improvements as outlined in frameworks such as COMAH and may be required to occasionally support during audits by the competent authority.

Your normal working environment will be office based at the Royston site. This role has mandatory site attendance 3 days per week. The role will require frequent visits to the production areas of the site.
Your responsibilities:
1. Technical expert for C&I disciplines, providing C&I engineering design.
2. Produce C&I design documentation (I.e., scope of work documents, I/O and instrument lists, instrument datasheets, control system architecture
3. Liaise and consult with the onsite Controls Team to ensure site standards, preferred technical options and preferred vendors are followed and sign off achieved for proposed engineering designs.
4. Deliver C&I designs for retrofit, working with local supply chain.
5. Drive continuous improvement of instrumentation related scopes by proposing CAPEX projects to close risk gaps or by realising opportunities such as continuous improvement initiatives.
6. Interfacing with sub-contractors for pricing proposals, answer RFIs and technical queries to ensure an accurate proposal.
7. Ensuring contractors comply with Johnson Matthey construction, manufacturing, installation, EHS and Security standards and policies.
8. Identify the appropriate application of Industry engineering codes, standards, practices, and design guides for CAPEX projects.
Requirements for the role:
9. Engineering degree in relevant subject at MEng/BEng or MSc/BSc level (e.g., Instrumentation & Control, electrical and electronic engineering, systems engineering) (Essential)
10. Minimum 7 years’ experience working as a Control & Instrumentation Engineer (Essential)
11. Understanding of DSEAR / ATEX regulations (Essential)
12. Experience with recognised industry standards (e.g., IEC 61508, IEC 61511 etc) (Essential)
13. Risk management knowledge and experience (Essential)
14. Experience working as a C&I design engineer and/or creating C&I design packages and associated design documentation. (Essential)
15. Experience working on an operational site as Control and Instrumentation Engineer (Essential)
