The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our Railway Control Centre (RCC) as a Crew and Information Controller. In this role, you will assign drivers and train crew members to shuttles in real time, ensuring optimal resource planning and adapting timetables as needed. Additionally, you will collect, record, and communicate real-time information related to rail activity and events, ensuring smooth operations and high-quality customer service.
Principal Accountabilities
Crew Controller responsibilities:
1. Ensure incoming teams start their shifts and cover any absences to maintain planned missions.
2. Communicate information to crews in France and the UK.
3. Optimise the use of crews and reserves in collaboration with the Operational Duty Manager (ODM) and Driver Leaders.
4. Produce space-time graphs and traffic forecasts during unexpected events.
5. Ensure compliance with crew work rules and agreements, consulting with the ODM and Driver Leaders as needed.
6. Assist in maintaining service quality through crew and rolling stock changes.
7. Respond to requests from crews, the Terminal Control Centre (TCC), and ODM to manage operations or events.
8. Use CCTV to communicate information to all internal clients.
9. Monitor rail operation events using the mimic display panel and space-time graphic in the Rail Control Centre (RCC), ensuring regular communication with other Controllers and Supervisors on shift.
10. Identify causes of failures and delays affecting rail services.
11. Communicate necessary information to various departments and Railway or Infrastructure undertakings during unexpected events (TCCs, ODM, Eurostar, AFC, Fréthun, etc.).
12. Log reasons for delays and changes to departure times in the Information System.
13. Assign rake numbers to missions and changes of platforms.
14. Communicate the stages of rail service events via SMS.
15. Comply with all safety documentation applicable to the role of Information Controller.
16. Keep the computerized documentation system up to date, including the logbook, message book, and fault log.
Qualifications and Experience
1. Educated to A-Level standard or equivalent.
2. Previous experience in a railway and/or control centre environment is beneficial.
3. Proficiency in English is required, with the ability to communicate in French at an intermediate level (B2 or above) is essential.
4. A valid driving licence is essential to facilitate commuting to the workplace in either the UK or France (at least 20% of shifts will be planned in the staff member’s country of residence).
What to Expect
Recruitment Process:
Given the nature of this role, the process will include an initial French language competency test (an informal conversation via Teams), a first-stage interview, Psychometric (Safety Competency) Testing, and a visit to one of our Railway Control Centres (RCC’s) either in the UK or France.
In addition, successful candidates will need to pass the safety-critical medical standard required for this role.
The proposed start date for training to commence is April/May 2025.
