Role
As a Project Planning Engineer within ScottishPower Energy Networks (SPEN) Transmission Projects, you will be at the centre of a vibrant and evolving project delivery team - responsible for development and management of project schedules within a portfolio for the multi-billion-pound future investment plan. Schedules have, and will in future, be generated to support ‘once-in-a-generation’ Critical National Network Infrastructure Construction projects - Reinforcing the existing Electrical Transmission Asset-base and expanding the Transmission Network to meet the future UK Network electricity demand and facilitate delivery of UK Net-Zero strategy.
What you'll be doing
Develop and manage evolving SPEN Transmission Major Project schedules through the Development & Delivery project lifecycle by interfacing with internal & external stakeholders. You will obtain the task detail required to provide accurate project scheduling information which will allow on-time, on budget, project delivery and project performance to be monitored against agreed project controls (KPIs).
Project workscopes vary from existing asset and system upgrades to the SPEN Transmission Network, to major new national inter-license construction projects with multiple Land & Planning, Design, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning interactions. Use project schedules to identify and communicate inter-dependencies and clashes whilst leading development of innovative programming solutions.
As part of the programme update cycle for your portfolio, you will be required to resolve programming issues in project schedules, co-ordinating inputs from internal and external stakeholders to identify and resolve issues. You will also assess schedule risk within your portfolio, highlighting specific risk to the Project Manager and stakeholders – suggesting solutions to alleviate or mitigate the identified risk. You will be required to analyse internal departmental schedules and external contractor project schedules; advising the project team of their suitability and what actions are required to meet the overall project schedule and control targets.
Following the programme update cycle, portfolio-level monthly reports will be produced, based upon the most up-to-date project schedule KPIs, informing and assisting the Sr Management decision-making process.
What you'll bring
As an integral part of the Project Team, you will bring an enthusiastic, measured, and systematic approach to the role. Previous experience in scheduling/programming/planning large-scale projects is essential in order to manage the internal and external programme schedule/cost/resource updates. You will possess a strong knowledge of MS Office tools such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint - combined with being adept with planning software tools, such as MS Project and Primavera (P6). The successful candidate is expected to possess good verbal and written communications skills with strong numerical and analytical abilities.
As Planning Engineer, the role will involve conducting a risk analysis of the schedule, identifying and communicating potential threats and risks. You will make recommendations on potential mitigation, and work with stakeholders to agree actions. With your understanding of project methodology, you will utilise your experience in scheduling and reporting, whilst maintaining a flexible outlook to meet the requirements of the position.
