The successful candidate will join a high-performing engineering team on one of the most ambitious civil infrastructure projects currently underway in the UK. Purpose of the Role Lead and manage design consultant deliverables, ensuring alignment with client expectations and project programme. Act as technical lead for permanent works design where no Design Manager is assigned. Monitor and report both input and output design deliverables to the Project/Engineering Manager. Key Responsibilities Manage the Technical Queries (TQ) process and ensure timely action and resolution. Coordinate and log all design queries, workshop outcomes, and required follow-ups. Issue RFIs (Requests for Information) to internal teams and external consultants as needed. Support the Design Manager in ensuring all design deliverables are completed to programme. Review and summarise designers' monthly reports; contribute to internal design progress reports. Maintain and update the design deliverables schedule. Review all submitted designs and drawings to ensure they meet project requirements and client scope, challenging non-conformities where necessary. Attend external interface meetings; maintain action logs and follow up. Facilitate internal interface meetings between design and construction teams. Ensure full compliance with design management procedures under the contract. Coordinate with subcontractors and external suppliers where design input is required. Oversee provision and management of design documents within the project team. Manage BIM deliverables for both temporary and permanent works with the BIM/CAD Technician. Act as temporary works design lead where required, ensuring compliance with TWC procedures. Additional Duties Support company-wide initiatives in engineering best practice and digital design implementation. Maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, and external stakeholders. Support recruitment and development of engineering staff within the sector. Promote the business to schools, universities, consultants, and clients as a technical leader in design. Required Experience & Skills Substantial experience in both construction and design, ideally within infrastructure and heavy civils. Strong understanding of construction methods, outputs, and sequencing. Experienced in managing external design consultants and interfacing with client teams. Knowledge of Principal Designer duties under CDM Regulations. Ability to lead digital design processes and promote BIM integration across the project lifecycle. Tunnelling and large-scale infrastructure experience is advantageous. Safety & Compliance Adhere to Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental (HSQE) responsibilities as outlined separately.
