Job Title: Site Operative
Location: Leeds
Pay: £14.65 per hour
Hours: Primary shift pattern of 37.5 hours/week: rotating
06:00–14:00, 14:00–22:00, and 22:00–06:00 (Monday–Friday)
Job Purpose
The Site Operative is responsible for monitoring the manufacturing production line, housekeeping, and carrying out minor maintenance tasks on the Aggregate Manufacturing Plant.
This role requires a proactive approach, following instructions and procedures independently, with a strong emphasis on safety and operational compliance. It is physically demanding and involves assisting the Shift Supervisor with daily, weekly, and monthly tasks outlined in the site manuals.
The Site Operative will also help identify potential plant issues, support maintenance efforts, and ensure smooth materials handling for continuous operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Operate fixed and mobile plant machinery, including the plant control system, and carry out minor maintenance tasks.
2. Use equipment such as the Loading Shovel and Forklift Truck as required.
3. Work efficiently and productively with minimal supervision.
4. Promptly inform the Shift Supervisor of any issues affecting production or equipment.
5. Support the completion and accurate recording of all daily, weekly, and monthly tasks as per site requirements.
6. Maintain high standards of Health, Safety, Welfare, and Security, taking a proactive approach and setting a good example.
7. Ensure the plant and site are kept clean and tidy, including cleaning mixers and confined spaces with tools such as pneumatic hammers.
8. Participate in training to acquire new skills needed for efficient operations, such as mobile plant operation, plant maintenance, first aid, and confined space working.
9. Perform cleaning duties in confined spaces and at heights when required.
10. Undertake any other duties assigned by the supervisor or management.
Essential Skills and Experience
1. Mechanically minded and practical, with a strong attention to housekeeping and cleanliness.
2. Proven reliability, excellent timekeeping, and a track record of taking responsibility in the workplace.
Desirable Skills and Experience
1. Mobile Plant Licence and/or Fork Truck Licence.
2. Previous experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally within waste, aggregates, or concrete industries.
3. Formal training in Health & Safety or Environmental practices.
Additional Information
The role requires participation in random drug and alcohol testing to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
